We stayed in the two-bedroom suite. It was fine, but needs some maintenance (the blind in master bedroom is very difficult to operate, and there are a few small repairs here and there needed) and more attention paid to the finer details (like inside the microwave and on top/behind the washer and dryer) when being cleaned. They make your beds...

Firstly, following booking I received an email to say that I was to check in at Hotel San Luca which is only a 5 min walk from San Marco square. I was then taken by a very polite and informative receptionist to the actual building that I would be staying in a further 5 min walk. This turned out to...

1000 year old building! Room was nice. Breakfast too basic. Needs to be improved. Special thanks to Mr Danielle who was kind enough to carry our very heavy suitcase for 10min as the hotel rooms were located in a different building from the check in place! (Good 7min walk). Mr Daniele explained with great professionalism by explaining each and everything...

The place has no reception, but they make it very clear in the confirmation e-mail. It's a difficult place to arrive if you have luggage because you have to cross 3 bridges. And there's no elevator there. But it's close to Piazza San Marco, the breakfast is good, there's air conditioning which is very important in the summer and it's...

I stayed in Casa Dolce Venezia for 4 days. It is not actually a hotel. It consists of 4 rooms situated on the 1st floor of a building. Our room was spacious and it was cleaned every day. Breakfast was adequate. Bathroom was big and comfortable, with a bath and not a shower. The greatest advantage of the hotel is...

Ill start from the beginning. I was dubious about getting to the hotel because so many people mentioned how hard it was to find the hotel. THIS IS RUBBISH. if you can follow simple road signs from the square then you will be fine. Jus remember that there are not many straight "roads" in venice so crossing a t junction...

Stayed here in May, booked the 2 bedroom apartment which was clean and tidy. You enter the apartment from the street and walk through the tiled covered forecourt and walled garden. The canal runs along one side of the building- 2 stepped areas going down to the canal. The apartment was on the ground floor and the main door of...

Let me start off by first mentioning the excellent staff. You have to check in at the hotel San Luca and then walk to Casa Dolce. Hotel San Luca is where you will have breakfast from 7:30-10am. The location of Casa Dolce cannot be beat. You are about 1min from St. Marks Square. The apartment we stayed in was located...

First of all, I paid for a room with a canal view and then got a garden view that was disappointing. The receptionist told me that they did not have a canal view, but on hostelworld.com, we were given that option, and paid more for it. The decor in this mansion was bad and my friend saw bugs. The bathroom...

Staying in San Marco

Neighbourhood Profile
San Marco
The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.

“Room 1 is fronting the canal. Room 2 is fronting the bridge. Rooms 3 & 4 are at the rear portion. I didn't get to see their view. I'd say, rooms 3 & 4 are probably more quite, if that's what you're looking for. :)”
