A return to the Metropole after many years made it absolutely clear: still going strong, a first rate hotel with great charme and a service quality that has become extremely rare. It is not exactly cheap but worth every euro. We loved it - and not only because they gave us an upgrade.

Wonderfully high standards of housekeeping and attention to detail. Unable to fault anything about the Metropole. Get a good deal with Voyage Privee. Take the hotel's speedboat to Murano. Enjoy the Michellin starred restaurant and the hotel's delightful lounges not to mention it's perfect location . Absolute joy!

My mother and I stayed here for a 3 night stay. This was a fabulous hotel with old style glamour. The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful and made us feel special. Nothing was too much trouble from making sure we could have an evening meal from the Oriental Bar in time to go to an evening concert to helping...

I really expected more from a 5 stars rated hotel in Venice. 0. No gym. 1. We arrived and in the room no complementary water. I called the reception who told me, water from the tap is very good, only in country with non drinkable water they offer bottled water.. I guess this person never visited a 4 or 5...

Fabulous boutique hotel; amazing, authentic and attentive staff - from the Oriental bar to reception to maid service, they did not put a foot wrong! Opulent decor was an oasis of calm just seconds away from the noisy tourists and yet fantastic location close to all the main sites.

We arrived at the hotel on a Sunday evening for a 2 night stay. It was our anniversary and the hotel gifted us a wonderful welcome gift, it was so lovely and great customer service. The rooms are old but modernised with touches like USB sockets beside the bed and a good quality large television which took HDMI input. The...

On arrival, the hotel is somewhat dark albiet atmospheric, which I liked very much, surprising as I usually like contemporary environments too. But hey, we were in Venice! Our room (which was a Junior Suite) was really lovely, bright and airy with a private roof terrace. The shower was also a steam room which was purely indulgent but heavenly. It...

My wife and I stayed at the Metropole from March 27th to March 31st. It is a wonderful hotel in a great location in Venice and with a lovely private garden. There is very little green in Venice and the central garden at the Metropole was a great feature. Room was large and comfortable if a little warm but the...

Advertised as a 5 star hotel yet shows 4 stars on the front entrance. The entrance area and downstairs is very dark. Despite booking a junior suite with lagoon view we were shown to an ordinary double room. The hotel floor we were on, is covered from floor to ceiling in religious icons and relics which is very overbearing. After...

Dear “Stephen M”, Thank you for taking the time to write your comment about your stay at the Metropole. I am very sorry to read you had problems with the room that was assigned to you, therefore I immediately made an important check with the Reception Staff. I know that after you complain you were shown several other rooms as...

This was our second honeymoon in Venice after the Royal Crescent Hotel in Bath. The Metropole is a wonderful hotel. Our reception via water taxi was fabulous and the room with its steam shower was fantastic with lovely glimpses on the Lagoon in the evening sunshine. Very comfortable bed (not two pushed together as is sometimes the case) and beautiful towels...

Staying in Castello

Neighbourhood Profile
Castello
Castello is the largest of the six sestieri (districts), and the only one not facing onto the Grand Canal. More than half of Castello is situated within Arsenale, the naval base, which occupies over one-fifth the area of Venice. This gentrified maritime neighbourhood feels busy but casual. Castello’s side streets are laid back, with small boats lining canals criss-crossed by laundry. Semiannual exhibitions add a strong artsy current to the Arsenale area. Via Garibaldi in Castello, with its shops and bars, has one of Venice's rare straight and wide boulevards. When a large ship turns around the Lido to enter the Giudecca Canal, the startling sight creates an illusion that it will run aground right on Via Garibaldi! Families treasure Giardini near the island's tip, green with rare trees and grass, and Riva degli Schiavoni is a popular spot for Venetians to take a stroll to watch the sunset.
