We stayed at the hotel during Venice's Art festival and the peak of the season! The concierge was amazing! He made arrangements for our private water taxi transfer from the airport directly to the hotel. And arranged for us to have the same water taxi all 3 days of our private tours. The hotel is definitely different and gives you...

If you could imagine yourself in a first class antique store offering an array of collectibles from furniture to do-dads, you can imagine your stay at the Metropole. It is a delightful hotel, with a friendly staff and with comfortable and well equipped rooms. You are surrounded by collectibles wherever you look, sit down, or sleep. Its fun, its different...

Dear "Charles M", in your comment - for which I sincerely thank you - you caught the main points for our Metropole. You said "it is fun, different and cozy". That is mainly what we do want to express to our Guests through our care and attention, but also through our love for art and antiques, and through a delicate...

Excellent hotel on the main waterway just down from Piazza San Marco. Beautiful boutique hotel furnished with antiques. Vaporetta outside the front door and water taxis come to the hotel dock. Breakfast is way over priced but there are other options steps away. I highly recommend.

Dear "Fred P", thank you for commenting your positive stay at the Metropole and for mentioning our breakfast. We have just launched a new proposal for those who prefer to have a quick breakfast: you can a have it at our Oriental Bar facing the lagoon: hot beverage, fruite juice and croissant at a cheaper price. We stayed here 3 nights in July,2013. When we were checking in we overheard the concierge talking on the phone concerning a rooftop suite. We inquired in a joking friendly way & were upgraded to this amazing suite with access to a rooftop deck with fantastic panoramic views of the Grand Canal. (And we discovered when we were checking out,...

I had heard about the Metropole and it didnt disappoint. If only for the location you would want to stay here. Our 1st floor corner room, decorated with antiques, was large, very comfortable and classically beautiful, windows opened directly on to the grand canal.

Thank you guys so much. Use the Vaporetto. Go to one of the church concerts. Eat well and drink Aperol! Bruno is well worth the visit too

Staying in Castello

Neighbourhood Profile
Castello
Castello is the largest of the six sestieri (districts), and the only one not facing onto the Grand Canal. More than half of Castello is situated within Arsenale, the naval base, which occupies over one-fifth the area of Venice. This gentrified maritime neighbourhood feels busy but casual. Castello’s side streets are laid back, with small boats lining canals criss-crossed by laundry. Semiannual exhibitions add a strong artsy current to the Arsenale area. Via Garibaldi in Castello, with its shops and bars, has one of Venice's rare straight and wide boulevards. When a large ship turns around the Lido to enter the Giudecca Canal, the startling sight creates an illusion that it will run aground right on Via Garibaldi! Families treasure Giardini near the island's tip, green with rare trees and grass, and Riva degli Schiavoni is a popular spot for Venetians to take a stroll to watch the sunset.
