Cannaregio is the second largest sestiere (district) with its busy Santa Lucia train station. Many transplanted Venetians commute from the outlying areas, “terra firma” to the locals, which is shorthand for any place that is not Venice. Two Grand Canal bridges serve Cannaregio, the newest (Constitution, 2008) still a local hotbed of controversy. Ponte degli Scalzi is a busy link to the train station. Nearby shops on the Lista di Spagna offer specialties like pastries and coffee that lure Venetians with a down-to-earth attitude. The Ghetto, where the Jewish population was segregated in Cannaregio, has five historic synagogues with an active Jewish community. The Fondamente Nove bustles with foot traffic to the Rialto and San Marco while vaporettos (water taxis) head to Murano and other islands. Side streets lead into quiet picturesque neighbourhoods and palaces like Ca' d'Oro rise directly out of the water.

Dear Leah E, thank you for your wonderful words on our hotel, service and for sharing your experience with the TripAdvisor community. As you have discovered, we are always happy to surprise our guests with nice little attentions and offer them the chance to live memorable moments and enjoy the magical atmosphere of our property and our wonderful city on water. In your specific case we had a singular opportunity which is not normally at our disposal, since our majestic Presidential Suite is a unique solution and generally always booked much in advance. A last minute cancellation allowed us this gift that we hope made you enjoy everything in first person. We are glad to learn about your satisfaction and read such a beautiful review. We simply wish you will come back in the future and pay a visit when the hotel has finished the renovation works going on in this period. The situation will then be much more magical again. Until then, we wish you our best regards, Alessio Front Office Department

We loved this hotel for so many reasons! First, the location is amazing. It is the first stop off the public fairy from the airport so you do not have to pull your luggage through the city to a hotel (no cans here😀). It is a quiet location and San Marco is busy and loud so

The water taxi station is less than a 5 minute easy walk from the hotel and the trip takes about 20 minutes to Santa Lucia entrance. The schedule is posted and vaporettos run every 15 - 20 minutes or so. That takes care of your return trip. I never arrive by air so I cannot answer the first part of your question. I would just e-mail the hotel - they are very helpful and have schedules/prices for most transportation. You can rent a private taxi anytime but they are VERY expensive and usually not necessary. Have a great trip. Do eat and drink too much!

Sue, You should take a water taxi right to the hotels dock or the "water bus?" (cheaper) which has a stop 10-15 minute walk away. Get a map now and mark where the hotel is. The hotel will also give you maps. We bought hop on hop off passes for the water bus. There are no vehicles in Venice including motorcyles. You will like the hotel. Away from the crowds. The maps and guides books all say that will get lost, and you will, but you should enjoy it, which you should. Don

the hotel has a free private water taxi departing 4-5 times a day. All you have a to do is call and request it. If you want a shuttle at a different time then it will be at a higher price

The fastest, easiest way, especially with suitcases is a water taxi. It may cost a little(about 30/40 euro)but is worth it because of the convenience and no hassle. Keep in mind that it may be rainy season so you really don't want to be lugging stuff on buses or walking.

Are there cafes nearby for breakfast?
We also had the breakfast at the hotel as it was included for elite members. It was quite good eating in the garden. I did pass a couple of coffee cafe's two canals to the south. Also there were a couple of bakeries in the Jewish ghetto that were open for breakfast.

"Quiet hotels"
"Not much to say....as hotel is in interior areas of Venice away from Grand Canal"
"305 good room. If you have a disability then do not get the 3rd floor, as the elevator goes to floor 2 and 4, will have to walk down or up."
"Rooms on the water side are excellent, but garden views are a unique part of Venice, so from what I could tell, there are no bad rooms here."
