This hotel is in a fantastic location on a side canal near St Mark's Square. The rooms were a nice size and well furnished. However, there were a few niggles. We had ants in our bathroom, although this may have been unlucky since our sons didn't have the same problem. The other issues, though, were just lack of attention to...

Stayed 3 nights in mid-December. The hotel was absolutely lovely. I booked a canal view and was upgraded to a room with an attached private terrace. It was really too cold to take advantage of, but I did pop up a couple of times a day for photos and to feast the eyes. The desk staff recommended great restaurants for...

The location is top - absolutely perfect. A sigh away from the Bridge of Sighs, literally! 2 mins from San Marco Piazza. Very helpful and friendly staff. Perfectly clean, and our room was very Venetian in style; I would highly recommend a room with a balcony, which overlooks the Bridge of Sighs and the canal and gondolas were drifting passed...

This is a great location to spend your honeymoon. Upon arrival via public water taxi, follow the directions on the hotel website to get in. Upon checking in we were told we were upgraded from annex building to a better room. It worked out great. The staff was knowledgeable and friendly. The location is near all the main attractions. The...

Loved the location! Easy to find! We were in "Harry Potter's" room 205 at the top of the steps all alone, SO CUTE! cozy, nice and perfect! The breakfast was a lovely spread in an adorable room! I found the hotel to be charming! My daughter and I walked everywhere and explored as much as we could in too short...

Not only is the Hotel Colombina conveniently located, it is charming and very well priced for Venice. We were in the Annex, which was fine, right near the breakfast room. Breakfast was very good, offering a nice selection of foods. Rooms vary in size, but were all adequate. Our shower was tiny, practically impossible to shower in, and there is...

Staff exceptionally helpful and mutilanguage speaking. Events and tours can be organised very easy. Breakfast with sausage, bacon, eggs, fruits, yoghurt, pastries in a 1700`s ambience is excellent. I stayed in a canal view of the hotel. The room was absolutely stunning, clean, and large. You can hear the gondoliers boat by with their customers and it's very romantic. With the help of Marco, he helped me arrange roses, prosecco, and a gondola tour which ended at the restaurant he recommended. The beauty of this hotel is it...

When we arrived at Hotel Columbina, I was relieved to see that the hotel somehow figured out a way to make their tiny lobby and reception area gracious and elegant. I had not been to Venice before and I feared that the traits that make Venice so wonderfully unique could somehow make hotel accomodations in our price range a little...

We spent two days in a classic double room. By the standards of Venice, the room was large. It was well appointed. A very good breakfast, combination of buffet and table service. Only a five minute walk from St. Marks Square, but on a quiet calle with water access so very convenient for taxis to/from airport and cruise terminal.

Staying in Castello

Neighbourhood Profile
Castello
Castello is the largest of the six sestieri (districts), and the only one not facing onto the Grand Canal. More than half of Castello is situated within Arsenale, the naval base, which occupies over one-fifth the area of Venice. This gentrified maritime neighbourhood feels busy but casual. Castello’s side streets are laid back, with small boats lining canals criss-crossed by laundry. Semiannual exhibitions add a strong artsy current to the Arsenale area. Via Garibaldi in Castello, with its shops and bars, has one of Venice's rare straight and wide boulevards. When a large ship turns around the Lido to enter the Giudecca Canal, the startling sight creates an illusion that it will run aground right on Via Garibaldi! Families treasure Giardini near the island's tip, green with rare trees and grass, and Riva degli Schiavoni is a popular spot for Venetians to take a stroll to watch the sunset.
