We got completely lost on the way back from Margerhita Square after a couple or drinks. Phone dead so no GPS and as it was after 2am there literally wasn't a single person on the streets in the entire city, nor was there any bar...More

The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and
Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.

I can't recall whether the main hotel has an elevator or not. You'll need to check with them. If you're located in the annexe next door to the hotel then, no it doesn't. The stairs are quite steep and you need to be fit particularly if you're located the upper floors.

We used the water taxi which was organised for us by the Hotel. They fetched us at the Harbour by car, took us to the water taxi which in turn took us to the front door of the hotel. It was a lovely way to see a small part of Venice and to get your bearings.
