Another lovely stay thanks to Francesca and Massimiliano who were very helpful. Clean and comfortable rooms (we booked 2); breakfast is good and is ordered shortly before it is needed and the staff take it fresh to the breakfast room or roof terrace, whichever is preferred. The housekeeping/waiting staff are really helpful and friendly too and all deserve a mention....

We stayed here for four nights after our tour ended. From start to finish, it was a wonderful and peaceful stay. The location, close to the Grand Canal, Piazzale Roma, shopping, restaurants and even San Marcos is ideal no matter what you want to do. We did a great deal of exploring because it's so close to everything. It's very...

property was great, close to grand canal, close to train station. Close to all. When we come back we would stay here. It was a 5 minute walk from the bus station. The water buses were 5 minutes away as well. The staff was very helpful and kind.

Ca dei Polo is in a very convenient location but a more obvious sign on the street would help to find it. Francesca was fantastic in welcoming us and giving us some great tips of things to do - Bacareto de Lele is a must do and very close. The room was very spacious and well air conditioned. The rooftop...

Hidden gem! This hotel was more than what we asked for. The hotel was clean, spacious, it was a great location to everything and it was easy to find. I will definitely return on my next stay in Venice!

Talk about a gem! The proprietors could not have been sweeter and more helpful. We were greeted and told about the highlights of Venice. The room was very charming and clean. The beds were very comfortable. In the morning we were served an amazing breakfast on the rooftop patio. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay there, and will definitely come back!

Very comfortable clean and friendly hotel, which is an easy 10min walk from the rail station & handy for the water transport. The owner, Francesca provided very good advice on places to eat & sites we shouldn't miss while in Venice. It was ideal for us.

I am really torn about this review - I had a great experience dealing with the woman who part owns the B&B before we arrived, she was so sweet and helpful. However, when we arrived we could NOT for the life of us figure out how to get from the public parking area to the B&B with all of our...

I booked Ca dei Polo having never been to Venice. It's a small place, but just the right size for me. The front desk staff was very kind and helpful. The room was clean and beautifully decorated. The bed was comfortable and the bathroom was modern. The location was excellent, near the train and bus stations, but on a quiet...

A great location - 5 minutes from the train station and about half an hour walk from St Mark's area (and the mass of tourists and 15€ coffees!), which meant the best of both worlds. Lots of lovely restaurants nearby (and very helpful recommendations from Francesca, the owner, who was super friendly and welcoming). The room was a good size (I...

Staying in Santa Croce

Neighbourhood Profile
Santa Croce
Santa Croce gained importance as a sestiere (district) when Piazzale Roma was created in the 1930s to bring cars and buses close to the center of Venice. Constitution Bridge spans the Grand Canal linking Piazzale Roma to the train station. This area buzzes with energy from travelers and students. Historic palaces and former industrial buildings house some departments of Ca' Foscari and IUAV Architecture universities. On the Fondaco dei Turchi, Venice's Museum of Natural History offers Venetians prehistoric thrills, plus an overview of lagoon fish and wildlife. The Grand Canal, northern boundary of Santa Croce, is lined with palaces and decorated by the tall green dome of San Simeon Piccolo. Ca' Pesaro attracts Venetians to its contemporary art exhibitions. The Grand Canal exposes only one face of these buildings. On the opposite side, the palace often interacts with a square or a busy street to represent its neighbourhood identity.
