Our travel agent booked us into this Hotel, not doubt having read good reviews = but our experience was quite disappointing. We arrived in the evening lugging our suitcases and carryons. The gentleman receptionist could barely raise his head to acknowledge us let alone help us. After several more minutes of us waiting, he finally finished handwriting his accounts and...

We stayed here for our honey moon and the receptionist put us in the new block which was superb; like a four star hotel. The furniture in our bedroom was great; a wonderful and big chandelier ( although you had to be a bit careful not to knock it as it is positioned quite low down above the bed )....

Loved staying in this little hotel . It is in the Canarreggio district so you get to enjoy a little peace and quiet after a long day of walking around. Lots of GREAT "pop-up" restaurants and a couple of bakeries (smell of fresh baked goods woke us up pleasantly every morning). Although away fro the touristy areas, still very accessible...

After reading the reviews my wife and I were apprehensive, however we were pleasantly surprised. Our room was in a new block, built in the grounds. It was large, clean, well decorated, the bed was large and comfortable. The bathroom was clean and the shower was great. The continental breakfast was what you generally get in Europe. Any way, we...

A fantastic city would recommend venice to anyone, but the tsx for this and that, leaves a bitter taste . If you can book a 4 star or above, I would recommend. The hotel was a good location but with small rooms, a redicoulous breakfast, and needs a good refurb

My sister and I booked this hotel as it looked very nice on the website and was advertised as being in the heart of Venice. When we arrived the desk staff completely ignored us for about 5 mins. We had booked a twin room but they had allocated us a double so the desk clerk argued with us although we...

My husband and I took a 2 week trip to Italy stopping in Rome, Florence and ending in Venice. We had such a great trip in rome & Florence that we were so excited to see what Venice had to offer. The hotel was close to the train station but with luggage we took the water transportation which was easy...

This is an ok hotel. Could definitely use some updating. The rooms were very small and were clean where it counted. They were a bit dim as far as lighting goes. We had some trouble finding space to put our suit cases. The location is good. It was pretty easy access to the rest of the city and only a...

When I arrived there I was greeted by a nice woman. The room was ok. Nothing extraordinary, it was simple. I got a great view to the canal, so that was a plus. I was in the last floor and there was no elevator so that was quite an exercise. There is no wifi in the room which was a...

Staying in Cannaregio

Neighbourhood Profile
Cannaregio
Cannaregio is the second largest sestiere (district) with its busy Santa Lucia train station. Many transplanted Venetians commute from the outlying areas, “terra firma” to the locals, which is shorthand for any place that is not Venice. Two Grand Canal bridges serve Cannaregio, the newest (Constitution, 2008) still a local hotbed of controversy. Ponte degli Scalzi is a busy link to the train station. Nearby shops on the Lista di Spagna offer specialties like pastries and coffee that lure Venetians with a down-to-earth attitude. The Ghetto, where the Jewish population was segregated in Cannaregio, has five historic synagogues with an active Jewish community. The Fondamente Nove bustles with foot traffic to the Rialto and San Marco while vaporettos (water taxis) head to Murano and other islands. Side streets lead into quiet picturesque neighbourhoods and palaces like Ca' d'Oro rise directly out of the water.
