This weekend I stayed at one of the apartments that are managed and owned by the Hotel Da Bruno - its was excellent - spacious, well furnished, it was a 1 bedroom but had an additional sofa bed for additional people and a lovely terrace on the roof. The staff member at Hotel Da Bruno who met us on arrival... More

Considering you got to walk to reach anywhere in Venice, this hotel is very well located. Even when you arrive its going to take 10-12 minutes to reach once you get off at the main Rialto bridge (from your water taxi). Its in a middle of a busy street surrounded by a number of restaurants, pizza places and even a... More

We stayed here for three nights in October 2014. The location is first class, the food good and the staff could not have been more helpful. The rooms though on the small side are spotlessly clean and well appointed. We would have no hesitation in recommending this hotel to anyone looking for a central location, within easy walking distance of... More

Very glad I booked this hotel. Perfect location 5 mins walk to either Rialto or St marks square. On a relatively busy street with plenty of shops and restaurants. The hotel room was spotless we had a triple room and it was very spacious with a large bathroom. Room was cleaned each day and new towels and linen. Staff were... More

I stayed here three nights in September 2014. I found the rooms nicely furnished, clean, and quiet. The breakfast buffet was very good. The hotel is a five minute walk from St Marks Square and a five minute walk from the Rialto Bridge. The front desk provided me exceptional assistance to arrange transportation when I had to depart very early... More

Da Bruno is in a very central area of Venice so you can walk to the Rialto Bridge in 5 minutes and get to St Marks Sq in 10-15 minutes depending on foot traffic. The room was pretty good size by Italian standards and breakfast excellent. The price seemed high but I didn't see any others in that central area... More

Hotel da Bruno is quite near Ponti Rialto and is a good base for exploring Venice. It's a 600 year old hotel, so has rather charming atmosphere and a slightly 'rabbit warren' feel to it, which to me felt right for Venice. The rooms are on 3 floors and there's no lift so this won't suit less agile travellers, but... More

Small rooms, traditionally decorated with delicious free breakfast. Great central location! Very helpful staff and fast wifi. No tea of coffee facilities in the room. Great gelato and pizza next door. The staff also give great restaurant recommendations.

You will not get lost in Venice if you stay at Hotel da Bruno. It is easy to find between St Marc's and the Rialto bridge. The concierge greet you with complementary juice upon arrival and are very knowledgable. The rooms are well appointed and the wifi works well in the rooms. I would recommend this hotel as an affordable... More

Great location, on a busy little street with lots of shops and eateries around. Easy navigation from Rialto bridge and the vaporetto stop. Rooms were tiny, but this is Venice. Me and my partner took our wedding shoot in Venice and this is a great base to explore San Marco, Rialto and Accademia Bridge, and an easy 20 minute walk... More

Staying in Castello

Neighbourhood Profile
Castello
Castello is the largest of the six sestieri (districts), and the only one not facing onto the Grand Canal. More than half of Castello is situated within Arsenale, the naval base, which occupies over one-fifth the area of Venice. This gentrified maritime neighbourhood feels busy but casual. Castello’s side streets are laid back, with small boats lining canals criss-crossed by laundry. Semiannual exhibitions add a strong artsy current to the Arsenale area. Via Garibaldi in Castello, with its shops and bars, has one of Venice's rare straight and wide boulevards. When a large ship turns around the Lido to enter the Giudecca Canal, the startling sight creates an illusion that it will run aground right on Via Garibaldi! Families treasure Giardini near the island's tip, green with rare trees and grass, and Riva degli Schiavoni is a popular spot for Venetians to take a stroll to watch the sunset.
