We have just returned from a two night stay in Hotel Flora in Venice. First of all, Venice is stunning and the trip from the train station by vaparetto is a great way to arrive in a city. Unfortunately our reservation confirmation e-mail stated just a short address of 'San Marco' so this is the stop we got off at...

We stayed two nights as a group of 8 in 3 double rooms and one twin. The check in process was fine even with a large volume of luggage. The rooms are what you would expect for the area with the standout being the beds and the bed linen, all of which was at a very high standard. The bathroom...

This family run hotel is really an oasis in this busy city. Its. location is perfect, near the arrival of the waterbus from the airport (do take the yellow line, it has the nicest arrival in Venice through the grand canal). The hotel has a lovely garden , next to the hotel is a private renovated palace directly on the...

Stayed here as a birthday present, it is a haven away From the bustle of a busy place, the service, location, privacy I don't think can be beaten, I have recommended to all friends as the only place to stay, could not be more central , the price is worth it,

A glorious little hotel right in the centre of Venice with outstanding staff. The bedding is wonderful, the breakfast in the courtyard is the highlight of the day and the staff are a joy, it could not be better.

Close to Alilaguna stop from airport and easy to find. Helpful staff, pretty aesthetics + courtyard. Nice breakfast + comfortable bed. Aircon worked well. Downside is ridiculously small single room and bathroom is also very tiny, but this is probably true for any 3star in Venice.

An amazing family-owned hotel very close to Saint Marco Sq. and all the must-see places, as well as 5 min walking distance to water-bus stop from airport. A beautiful inside garden where you can eat breakfast and an amazing tasty breakfast as well. Front desk day manager was very helpful in providing advice on where to go and where to...

I saw this hotel 35 years ago when staying somewhere else and vowed to come back. I'm glad I did. Its a dream hotel, set in a small but beautiful hotel, @ the end of a tiny alley. Breakfast, snacks, etc. are set in the garden. The room was somewhat small but the view of the garden made up for...

This was our first trip to Venice and have no comparisons regarding hotels. This one is very nice; rooms are clean and the bed was comfortable. The bathroom is very small, but to be expected in Europe. They provided a nice breakfast as well, which was plentiful. The garden/courtyard area was the highlight. Very pretty and a lovely place to...

Staying in San Marco

Neighbourhood Profile
San Marco
The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.
