Just back from our 3rd visit to C/P. We have been visiting Venice for many years and this hotel has become a firm favorite. It is comfortable and beautifully clean, all the staff are pleasant and very helpful and a standard continental breakfast with plenty of choice and good hot coffee is served every morning.Get off the vaporetto at St Zaccaria...

Although small in size our room was value for money. Breakfast is varied and substantial, and the shower and air conditioning works well. Many restaurants are in this area, some facing the Canal. Take the time to check the menus and prices. The staff are friendly and helpful but the only power point is in the bathroom. We also had...

The location of this hotel is nice in that it is directly behind St. Mark's Square, it is like a 2 minute walk. It's not really close to the water so if you take a water taxi you have to lug your bags about 200 yards to the hotel but that is minor. We had an apartment and the unit...

Very nice clean hotel located in the center of Venice two minute walk from Piazza San Marco. Staff is very polite English speaking and helpful. Rooms are small furnished old Italian style. Perfect place for overnight stay in Venice.

Excellent location just a few yards from the watertaxis and the main promenade to San Marco. Superb staff who were extremely pleasant and helpful. Don't go here if you want full hotel facilities like swimming pool and food all day - it's a small hotel with an excellent breakfast but no other amenities.

We stayed in one of the hotel's adjoined apartments, very surprised to find a two storey well equipped and nicely air conditioned apartment. Perfect central location as a base to explore all of Venice, a few minutes from st marks square and right next to a number of water bus stops giving easy access to pretty much anywhere in or...

We managed to book this hotel last minute for a week on-line. The staff have been extremely helpful with all of our needs. Power outlets are an issue to charge devices as there is only one you can use in the bathroom. Breakfasts included have been fine. Great location near the square

The location of this hotel is excellent, just five minutes walk from the square, and seconds to the water front. Rooms very comfortable but if you want a twin room email ahead to advise. All photos show two beds pushed together but this is not so for all rooms. Staff were extremely friendly and helpful. Continental breakfast was good value...

Worst hotel I have ever stayed at. The rooms were stifling hot , while they claim air conditioning ,it is weak and unable to cool the room. Secondly there is no outlets in the room to charge electronic devices other than one in the bathroom. Thirdly my wife and I left our e-readers in the room upon checkout. When we...

This is a small hotel but there was nothing small about the friendliness of all the staff. We had a room on the 3rd floor to the back of the hotel, it backed onto a small laneway. It was very tastefully furnished in the Queen Anne style antique cream. It was a twin room. There was no tea and coffee...

Staying in Castello

Neighbourhood Profile
Castello is the largest of the six sestieri (districts), and the only one not facing onto the Grand Canal. More than half of Castello is situated within Arsenale, the naval base, which occupies over one-fifth the area of Venice. This gentrified maritime neighbourhood feels busy but casual. Castello’s side streets are laid back, with small boats lining canals criss-crossed by laundry. Semiannual exhibitions add a strong artsy current to the Arsenale area. Via Garibaldi in Castello, with its shops and bars, has one of Venice's rare straight and wide boulevards. When a large ship turns around the Lido to enter the Giudecca Canal, the startling sight creates an illusion that it will run aground right on Via Garibaldi! Families treasure Giardini near the island's tip, green with rare trees and grass, and Riva degli Schiavoni is a popular spot for Venetians to take a stroll to watch the sunset.
