Hotel is an older hotel with old furnishings. We had an incident where our radiator in the bathroom exploded but this was sorted once we notified the staff and we were moved rooms. The hotel ceiling did have mould on it in the first room we had and the bathroom was tiny. Hotel beds were not comfortable. The next room...

Listed as a 3 star on some sites it is barely a 2 star. Desperately in need of a refresh. Pictures shown were taken in better days, The standard double is a very small room with no place to put suitcases. Double bed was uncomfortable. Tiny bathroom and tiny shower straight out of the 1930's. Shower rod bent. No LIFT...

Comfy bed with usual small shower, polite helpful staff, very necessary in Venice where everybody is wandering around desperately trying to make head or tails of their maps. Just around a few corners nearby is the Scala Contarini del Bovolo , (snail shell tower), very worth a visit. Then on to St Marks! The hotel is not the Ritz but...

We were excited to check in to Venice after a long day of travel. However we got to our room at 7.30pm to find the previous guests dirty towels in our bathroom. From there it just didn't get much better. The roof had mouldy patches, the air con sounded like an aeroplane and there was almost no light in the...

Location: This hotel is in a great location, just 5 minutes to Rialto and Accademia Bridges, and 10 minutes to San Marco. The hotel: the room we had was quite small and decorated in a traditional Venetian way. The bed linen was clean and the bed was hard but not uncomfortable. It was quite chilly in the room at night...

Whilst there were few windows with a view ( most looking out onto an internal well) the hotel was well furnished with all expected facilities and was very comfortable providing good continental style breakfast. The staff were welcoming and helpful but we would have appreciated a kettle for coffee and tea making

We were a party of 7 - 2 double, 1 twin and 1 single - all rooms were clean and comfortable and being an old building the best was made of the space for the en-suites which are a bit unorthodox to say the least but perfectly adequate. The young lady on the check in and the breakfast room was...

I am just back from a 5 night stay at San Giorgio. I'm not sure what some of the bad reviews were complaining about. I booked a single room but actually got a double so already I'm pretty happy. The hotel was easy to find from the Sant Angelo Vaparetto stop, took less than 5 minutes. There was no one...

We stayed here for a week booked through Citalia.Having read the trip advisor reviews we were quite worried before we arrived. We were able to find it very easily from our stop on the grand canal and were welcomed into the Hotel at 11am where our room was already available. The room was basic but entirely functional with everything in good working...

We stayed here in late July, what a big mistake. Hotel is extremely dated and very dusty and unhygienic. The amount of dust in the room was disgusting. I could literally taste the dust, feel it in my eyes and for this reason was unable to sleep. You couldn't see your reflection through the full length mirror due to it...

Staying in San Marco

Neighbourhood Profile
San Marco
The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.
