Hotel Al Vagon is a fantastic little hotel in Venice. The staff are so friendly and helpful. Our room was very spacious, ensuite bathroom was very clean with a great shower. Room was tidied each tea with tea and coffee replenished. Great wifi. Fantastic location, very close to the Rialto Bridge and a short walk to St Mark's square. Lots...

Definitely doesn't warrant 1 star, I'd say more like a 3-4 star. The location of the hotel was excellent, as were the facilities of the hotel. Excellent wifi, tea and coffee etc. Staff were friendly and welcoming. I requested a canal room and got one which was excellent and really gave a good feel of life in Venice. The room...

We have just returned from a great long weekend at the Hotel Al Vagon, Venice. Despite its 1 star rating, we couldn't have asked for a more perfect location to explore such a magical place. Located 5 minutes from the famous Rialto Bridge and 10 to 15 minutes from the spectacular Piazzetta San Marco and its Basilica Di San Marco....

My wife and I stayed here for 4 nights in October 2016. We were hoping for a canal view room, but got a view of a busy courtyard instead. This was not a problem as the only time we were in the room was to sleep at night. The room was situated in a separate building to the main hotel/...

Great location, the rooms are okay for the prices but the reason it's got an average from me because the wifi is very very very poor they need to upgrade it and also the bed are not proper doubles they are two singles put together so they move apart from each other

Good hotel advice for Venice is to avoid the big central San Marco and Grand Canal hotels, unless you are not worried about the cost and expect to be waited on hand and foot in luxury surroundings. This hotel has none of that, but it was still a good place to stay and good value for money. It is in...

We spent a long weekend in Venice. Our room was behind the hotel reception in another building which isn't a problem, but the wifi didn't stretch to our room very well and my own 3G didn't work in the building so internet was very slow. The room itself was clean and has beautiful Venetian furniture/decorations. The sound proofing however was...

This hotel was a good value for the money. Room was clean and comfortable. Not many extras, internet didn't work at all. Good location, but just a little ways away from main tourist spot so quiet. anywhere In Venice doesn't take too long to walk to so no issues there. For what you pay, good value, just know what to...

Stayed for 3 nights early December. The hotel is in a great location- just off the main drag of things but still centrally located. The hotel itself....... well we weren't expecting 5 stars so I guess we got what we paid for....... kind of. We booked a superior room- it was clean and comfortable but the bathroom had the most...

Staying in Cannaregio

Neighbourhood Profile
Cannaregio
Cannaregio is the second largest sestiere (district) with its busy Santa Lucia train station. Many transplanted Venetians commute from the outlying areas, “terra firma” to the locals, which is shorthand for any place that is not Venice. Two Grand Canal bridges serve Cannaregio, the newest (Constitution, 2008) still a local hotbed of controversy. Ponte degli Scalzi is a busy link to the train station. Nearby shops on the Lista di Spagna offer specialties like pastries and coffee that lure Venetians with a down-to-earth attitude. The Ghetto, where the Jewish population was segregated in Cannaregio, has five historic synagogues with an active Jewish community. The Fondamente Nove bustles with foot traffic to the Rialto and San Marco while vaporettos (water taxis) head to Murano and other islands. Side streets lead into quiet picturesque neighbourhoods and palaces like Ca' d'Oro rise directly out of the water.
