I was there a week ago and I can say my room was clean. The rest of the hostal was tidy and I think that it's one of the reason it seems cleanliness. Archie and his son are very nice people and helpful. If you don't have to live there and only stay for some nights,it's an hostal with a good...

bathrooms look like they havent been cleaned in years, dust everywhere.. No kitchen, had to pay extra for a hot shower! No backpacker vibe either, this place needs a major makeover! Good location but kept walking past a diff hostel wishing I'd chosen that one instead!

Archies house is positioned on venice island off one of the main streets with resaurants bars etc. Archie himself and his son are nice and will happily help you with any questions or anything you need. The only downside is maybe the overall cleanliness, our room had dirty blankets and walls and the hostel had an overall shabby feel. But...

Twice now Ive been in Venice and when i get there the list of accomodations they give you at the info center is so difficult to read. So the first time on my way to check one place out I saw a sign that said rooms. The rest is history, its run by a father and son, who are very...

I had my doubts from reading the reviews of this hostel on tripadvisor, as I was on a tight "student" budget I decided a bed is a bed at the end of the day and being the cheapest accommodation in Venice, I went ahead and booked a three night stay 11th Dec 2010-14th Dec 2010. The location is ideal, directly...

If you are a budget traveler and you don't want to spend to much money then Archie's House is a relatively cheap and easy alternative, the hostel is near the train station, and very easy to get to. But .....the rooms a a bit dirty the place smells a bit of old furniture and age old dust and the kitchen...

i was just about to go to sleep when i felt my skin tingling here and there....thought i was just paranoid, but turned the lights on and there were bed bugs EVERYWHERE. the staff were good enough to give me another room, but i'm almost too paranoid to sleep right now.

Yes this was five years ago...but as I'm having a look over some places that I have stayed I remember the night I slept outside in Venice because of whatever was living in my bed at Archies. Woke up with huge red welts all over my body and face-not the best thing to experience on holiday. Other than that it...

Staying in Cannaregio

Neighbourhood Profile
Cannaregio is the second largest sestiere (district) with its busy Santa Lucia train station. Many transplanted Venetians commute from the outlying areas, “terra firma” to the locals, which is shorthand for any place that is not Venice. Two Grand Canal bridges serve Cannaregio, the newest (Constitution, 2008) still a local hotbed of controversy. Ponte degli Scalzi is a busy link to the train station. Nearby shops on the Lista di Spagna offer specialties like pastries and coffee that lure Venetians with a down-to-earth attitude. The Ghetto, where the Jewish population was segregated in Cannaregio, has five historic synagogues with an active Jewish community. The Fondamente Nove bustles with foot traffic to the Rialto and San Marco while vaporettos (water taxis) head to Murano and other islands. Side streets lead into quiet picturesque neighbourhoods and palaces like Ca' d'Oro rise directly out of the water.
