The location is great, with some small bars and cafes very close by. The rooms are super clean, the air conditioning worked perfectly and the common areas very always quiet. Although I think the guest house was fully booked when we stayed we barely ever saw anyone so it almost felt like we had the guest house to ourselves. The...

Stayed here for 3 nights and found the location spot on and a great price at £360 compared to the other hotels we were looking at. Just a short, easy, 10 minute walk from the vaparetto stop and a 2 minute walk from the Campo Santa Margherita square with plenty of places to eat and drink - we really liked...

This guesthouse has 6 rooms, three doubles and three singles, all with their own bathrooms. This is my second visit and I hope I can have a third (at least). Maria, the proprietor, really cares about her guests and wants them to have the best stay possible. Breakfast, of bread, rolls, coffee cake, cereal, fruit, yogurt, coffee, tea, juice and...

This guesthouse is very good. The room and bathroom are great. The location is fine with easy access to the water buses or an interesting walk to wherever you want to go in Venice. I needed some lactose free products for breakfast and asked where I might be able to purchase them, Maria went out of her way to get...

Friendly and basic albeit slightly impersonal guesthouse, rarely any other guests and only two of the staff in my stay. Located in a quiet street, I found it a little difficult to find as a solo traveller therefore would not recommend if you are arriving in Venice late and are walking from the bus terminal. It is also located a...

Feel like at home, they say. For me, it's more like visiting a sister or cousin, although with only a common kitchen, not common living room. Very quiet, small guesthouse with only six rooms, but in early December, maybe only one or two are occupied. Still, daily cleaning! Easy access from airport by boat (linea arancia) almost directly to the...

This is a hidden gem! My husband and I stayed with Maria for our honeymoon. Our first night in Venice we stayed in a fancier hotel near the rialto, which was nice but we much preferred Santa Margherita Guesthouse for it's location and unbeatable stellar service. All of Venice is walkable, it was nice to be off the touristy strip....

Staying in Dorsoduro / Accademia

Neighbourhood Profile
Dorsoduro / Accademia
Artsy is the defining mood of this neighbourhood with street artists, students, painters, sculptors, restorers, curators, historians, collectors, heirs and heiresses rubbing elbows. Peggy Guggenheim's collection, now a museum, lures chic locals for evening art aperitifs. Traditionalists and visionaries cocoon in bohemian luxury. La Salute basilica buttresses the neighbourhood to the east. Gondolas bob in the morning light. The Accademia Bridge crosses the Grand Canal. A back street doubles as basketball court. Palaces house residents, or like Ca' Foscari a university, or a museum like Ca’ Rezzonico that attracts Venetians for concerts. Dorsoduro reveals its industrial roots too, in buildings converted to house university departments or exhibitions. Campo Santa Margherita bursts with youthful energy from local students. Foot traffic bustles to and from Piazzale Roma and Santa Lucia train station. Evening commuters pause for an aperitivo. Neighbours exchange confidants in a campo (square) on their way to market.
