We are just coming to the end of a 4 night break here and are really pleased with the hotel. We had read reviews saying the hotel was tired and needed updating, but this was far from the truth. The hotel is clean and well cared for, and the room we are staying in has a very traditional style, as...

Now i was seeing Venice as an adult with a new found interest in photography. My wife was pleased to use this trip for our anniversary and had never been to Venice before. Searching for...

We recently stayed four nights and my parents were in the Monaco and grand hotel (fantastic hotel). The hotel room was right above the front door which has two sliding doors which a very very loud when trying to sleep. The decoration of the room was very over powering with material walls which were dusty. The room was also very...

My mum booked this as a special trip to celebrate my 40th birthday. It was easy to find using my I phone! Upon arrival we were taken to our suite - through buildings, up and down stairs, lifts etc. I knew I would never find it again so used my phone! My mum found all the steps difficult and although we...

Staying in San Marco

Neighbourhood Profile
San Marco
The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.
