Stayed 3 nights in room 120, overlooking the Grand Canal. All i can say breath taking. Close to a vaporetto stop (water taxi). The staff here could not do enough for us ie maps, bookings etc. every staff member were fabulous. Buffet breakfast fantastic. The only thing beds are hard, but we found that in Europe in general. This is...

We spent 2 nights in Venice before our cruise. The hotel is lovely, and the location is perfect, near Rialto Bridge and overlooking Grand Canal. The hotel has a private dock which is great, and is also right next to a Vaporetto stop, so quite convenient. We were in suite and enjoyed standing out on our balcony overlooking the action...

Would highly recommend hotel, service and facilities excellent. We had a suite with garden view was very comfortable, bed was excellent, fab nights sleep. I would agree with other reviews that breakfast would benefit from a bit more variety (particularly fruit) - choice was a little bit limited, but sufficient for our needs (toaster doesn't toast if hotel are reading...

We chose this hotel for the location and were not disappointed. Our junior suite had a balcony overlooking the Grand Canal, and the views were breathtaking. We couldn't fault the hotel; it was spotless and very comfortable. Breakfast was very good, with fruit, pastries and a hot option. The staff are exceptional; everyone from the concierges down to the chambermaid were...

We were really happy with this hotel. The towels were a bit old, but I"m really nit picking here. Staff were lovely and everything was clean. It was very expensive but that's what you get if you want to stay on the grand canal. My only advice for people visiting Venice for the first time: if you miss the last...

This hotel is very pretty. We loved the bar area (a bit expensive - like everything in Venice). We had the junior suites. Nice decor, roomy bathrooms, well-planned layout. It was quiet, too! The service was excellent. Everyone was very helpful and friendly! I would definitely stay there again.

After a difficult drive to Venice, and a lousy experience with Hertz, trying to drop off the car, an exhausting vaporetto ride, shlepping our luggage, how wonderful to find our hotel just steps from the "bus" stop. Right on the Grand Canal, but a quiet segment of it, was the lovely Palazzo Sant'Angelo. We were greeted with helpful service, and...

I consider this hotel a little gem! The staff were very friendly and helpful from the moment we entered the hotel. It is very conveniently located in the San Marco area on the grand canal directly at the San Angelo boat bus stop - well worth knowing in advance for the trip from and to the airport. It also has...

Staying in San Marco

Neighbourhood Profile
San Marco
The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.
