Stayed in a mansarda, at least it is how they called a room 10 square meters in which I was able to stand only in the first 20 cm after the entrance. Asked for a receipt and they gave me a scribbled piece of paper without any identification of the place and the amount payed. Don't they have to give...

We stayed at Locanda Gaffaro at the end of our 13 day trip and it was the perfect place. We had been to all the bigger cities and were looking for a quiet, relaxing place to end our trip. We got the room with a balcony and loved every minute of it. The breakfast space was lovely and a great...

Loved every minute of our stay in this love hotel. The rooms and bathrooms had a nice size. Staff hardly spoke english but still very friendly and helpful. The hotel is located about 10 lovely walking minutes of S'Toma and just 4 stops away from San Marco. Their are also nice and cheaper restaurants 5 minutes walk from the hotel....

My boyfriend and I stayed here for 4 nights in April and are very pleased with our stay. The hotel was conveniently located in a quiet area, not too far from the train station nor the St. Mark's Place. The rooms were nice and tidy with private bathrooms and free WiFi. The breakfast was served in our room at our...

Is this our ninth consecutive Spring in Venice, staying at Locanda Gaffaro? I have actually lost count. The first time, I happened upon the Gaffaro when researching reasonably priced accommodation in Venice; the bookings after that have been by design, and my husband says he would continue to stay at the Gaffaro even if we won a lottery. To tell...

Everything about this hotel is great. It has a great position: not very far from Venezia Santa Lucia station and close to everything you want to see in this wonderful town. The room was small but nice, warm and very clean. The bathroom was brand new with a great shower and everything else you need. Breakfast was served in the...

We booked Locanda Gaffaro expecting a family run hotel with a welcoming smile and a font of knowledge of local traditions. While it is true the hotel is run by a family, we were greeted by the maid who was a bit put off perhaps because we arrived a little early (wanting to drop off our luggage). We didn't realize...

We came to this hotel in August/September of 2000 for our honeymoon and loved it so much that we came again in August of 2013 and they even put us in the same room. The breakfast is included and so nice. It's a little hard to find at first but so worth it. It's clean and quiet. We will be...

Staying in Santa Croce

Neighbourhood Profile
Santa Croce
Santa Croce gained importance as a sestiere (district) when Piazzale Roma was created in the 1930s to bring cars and buses close to the center of Venice. Constitution Bridge spans the Grand Canal linking Piazzale Roma to the train station. This area buzzes with energy from travelers and students. Historic palaces and former industrial buildings house some departments of Ca' Foscari and IUAV Architecture universities. On the Fondaco dei Turchi, Venice's Museum of Natural History offers Venetians prehistoric thrills, plus an overview of lagoon fish and wildlife. The Grand Canal, northern boundary of Santa Croce, is lined with palaces and decorated by the tall green dome of San Simeon Piccolo. Ca' Pesaro attracts Venetians to its contemporary art exhibitions. The Grand Canal exposes only one face of these buildings. On the opposite side, the palace often interacts with a square or a busy street to represent its neighbourhood identity.
