We stayed for 3 nights. The stairs were exactly as we saw on the intenet which was comforting as we had not booked over the net before. The reception was vey helpfull. Our room was typical venetian very nice, a bit dark but clean. We found the bed a bit hard and in the early hours you can hear the...

This hotel is as they say, comprising of a number of different buildings within close proximity to each other. The room was quaint Venetian and small with a double bed. We were 3 flights of stairs up and in a building around the corner to the check-in. It's very close to Saint Marco Square and we were pleased with breakfast...

What can I say. Loved it! Travelled with My mother of 65 who wanted to see Venice and took her there for her retirement. We arrived at around 11pm and the Venice that time of night is pretty dead and dark, the rain didn't help either!!. The directions on the website were fantastic and got off at the water bus...

Because we visited this site we knew what we might be "getting into" so we had mediocre expectations. We stayed here twice once at the beginning of our trip -we did an italy/france loop and then at the lux before we left. First room, small, clean, bath tub was weird...small & was shaped funny difficult to stand but easy to...

Great location - very close to San Marco Square. We stayed in a room around the corner from the main entrance to the hotel. It felt like our own private apartment. If you can't walks stairs, stay away from this hotel. The room was nicely decorated and the bed was comfortable. There was central A/C which you control in your...

The Lux Hotel is very well situated and despite the compact size of bedroom and bathroom we had a comfortable stay and it was good value. Room 441 was up 5 flights of narrow stairs at the rear of the annexe building and was very quiet. The decor was Venetian style –fabric on the walls etc. Breakfasted at 8 am...

NOT WRITTEN BY HOTEL - EXTREMELY HONEST Hotel Lux is two buildings: one to check in, the other to live in. You might open the door to your room and think it a broom closet. Just walk in a little further and you'll find a rather clean bathroom. This is where you'll be staying. Luckily, you're in Venice. So if...

The hotel is quite charming with its small side street entrance and beautiful mirror and wood lined stairway to the front desk. It is an easy 3 minute walk to the vaparetto, St. Marks, internet point, and many restaurants and cafes. Room was small but clean and the chamber service was very good. However I found the staff to be...

Returned from our second trip to Venice and used the Hotel Lux as our base for four nights this time. Arrived via Ryanair and took the hassle free shuttle bus direct from the airport to Piazzale Roma at the top end of Venice. Hopped on the No1 vaporetti and took beautiful moon lit trip down the Grand Canal getting off...

I had friends that stayed there and thought it was very nice. However, my experience was the same as some of the other negative reviews. We entered an lovely lobby to register and then we were taken outside, down the way and around the corner to another building. The room was dank, low ceilinged and almost claustraphobic. We had stayed...

Staying in Castello

Neighbourhood Profile
Castello
Castello is the largest of the six sestieri (districts), and the only one not facing onto the Grand Canal. More than half of Castello is situated within Arsenale, the naval base, which occupies over one-fifth the area of Venice. This gentrified maritime neighbourhood feels busy but casual. Castello’s side streets are laid back, with small boats lining canals criss-crossed by laundry. Semiannual exhibitions add a strong artsy current to the Arsenale area. Via Garibaldi in Castello, with its shops and bars, has one of Venice's rare straight and wide boulevards. When a large ship turns around the Lido to enter the Giudecca Canal, the startling sight creates an illusion that it will run aground right on Via Garibaldi! Families treasure Giardini near the island's tip, green with rare trees and grass, and Riva degli Schiavoni is a popular spot for Venetians to take a stroll to watch the sunset.
