We stayed for 3 nights last May, and really enjoyed our visit. The location is very central, but we had no problems with noise. The room was big and had a lounge area, 2 massive windows with views over the canals and a decent bathroom. Furnishings were Venetian style and brought lots of character to the rooms. Breakfast is brought...

My husband, 12-year-old daughter and I stayed three nights here at the end of March. We chose the hotel for its central location and moderate pricing. My conclusion: you get what you pay for. The location is central, just a couple of blocks off of Piazza San Marco, but it's on a busy corner with lots of pedestrian noise for...

Dear Sirs, we feel really impressed that our Hotel did not satisfy your expectations. The Hotel Al Ponte dei Sospiri is a Boutique Hotel located just 30 metres from Saint Mark's Square, right in the heart of Venice. This means that there might be a lot of people walking around in this area if Venice is crowded but usually in...

It was a joy to relax in our room for an afternoon siesta and after a long day sightseeing. The soft seating and tables and lamps made a lovely romantic setting. The bathroom and huge tub were amazing. We had a junior suite with a Juliette balcony overlooking the Ponte dei Sospiri (bridge of sighs). We had a four poster...

First, this location is excellent, close to San Marco and easily reached from Vapporetto. My wife and I stayed in a Junior Suite and could not believe how plush, large and comfortable it was. On the other hand my mother in law stayed in a deluxe double and was not impressed. Her shower was tiny and the room was so...

Our trip was to celebrate my 60th birthday and was much aniticipated. Unfortunately due to baggage handling problems at Gatwick, we arrived in Venice but our suitcases didn't! On our arrival at the hotel the receptionist immediately took control, rang the airport to establish the situation and from that point the hotel did everything they could to re-unite us with...

I have just returned from this hotel, where I stayed for 4 nights with my hubby in celebration of our 10th wedding anniversary & his birthday. Whilst in Venice we also renewed our vows. I was impressed by the service of this hotel even before I arrived. I emailed several queries and requests and all were efficiently dealt with, including...

Excellent position , charming staff. Our room did not have a canal view (all full), no matter as we were out all day and night anyway. The a/c was adequate, lovely Italienate appointed room (if you like OTT-I do !), gold wardrobes, side tables, huge glass chandelier, richly draped curtains ,bigger than I had anticipated actually, with a very large...

Staying in San Marco

Neighbourhood Profile
San Marco
The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.
