We stayed here for 2 nights on our trip to Italy. It was a hotel to experience true Venetian style. No one was there when we first arrived but there was an envelope left with my name on it and the key to the room. We almost felt like we were in someone's house looking for our room. Beautiful staircase...

Thank you for your review. We are very happy when our guests leave satisfied! The little fridge that is in the room had the problem that was attached to the wrong socket, so when you removed the card the current went off.. And then it took time to wake.

Nice room with amazing furniture (typical Venetian)! We loved the fact that in the evening you hear live opera music of the theatre next to the hotel. It really brought us into the atmosphere. The staff was really friendly. Maybe the only point of improvement is the breakfast. It was a pity there were no typical fresh local (Italian) specialties...

Me and my friend stayed in the Locanda Barbarigo for 2 nights at the end of January 2015. We arrived to a pleasant note with a key directing us to our room. At first I thought this was strange for a hotel but once you get inside and into your room you can see why. We stayed in the most...

The hotel is in a perfect spot, 15 min from Rialto bridge 5 min from Piazza San Marco. Rooms are nicely decorated typical Venetian style, nice bathroom with plenty of hot water. The room was clean and quite large but the room (and hotel) was cold and the floor in the room was freezing. There was a boiler for tea...

My boyfriend and I stayed here for 3 days in February 2014. This hotel is just what we had pictured when we thought of hotels in Venice. Down a quiet street, we were lucky to have a room that over looked the canal and on a couple of occasions we were treated to the musical delights to a singing gondola...

We have just returned from a fabulous short break in Venice. Arrived from Greece via the overnight ferry, to get our sea legs going! The hotel more than met our expectations. The room was ready even though we arrived mid morning, location for the minor and major sites is just perfect - near enough to enjoy, far enough to be...

We were a little worried about the apartment separate from the hotel, but loved our two day stay there. We were shown the location personally by a helpful employee from the hotel lobby, who gave us tips for breakfast and lunch. The apartment is down a quiet alley just around the corner from San Marco. We loved getting our cappuccino...

We have just returned from a fabulous week's holiday in Venice and our experience surpassed all expectations. The hotel is delightful - a typical old Venetian building with a great deal of charm, set in a very quiet area beside a canal. The location is excellent, very close to St. Mark's Square, Museums, beautiful Churches, the Vaporetto and the Grand Canal....

Just got back from a week's stay in this lovely little hotel, set beside a small canal in a tranquil corner, only five minutes walk from the bustling St Mark's square. The only sounds when waking were the gondolier's songs as they gently glided past. Our room was very elegant and comfortable, with a good sized en suite. The breakfasts...

Staying in San Marco

Neighbourhood Profile
San Marco
The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.
