Stayed here for a short break before Christmas. The hotel is nicely furnished and the rooms are of good size and comfortable. During our visit we had good weather and we spent one afternoon sitting outsie the hotel watching the world go by and drinking wine, which was a bargain at 10 euris a bottle from the hotel bar. We...

This is a lovely hotel with friendly helpful staff, nice location by water with its own water taxi jetty, rooms are a good size - ours had a wet room but that may be because we asked for an accessible room, (room 303) good plentiful continental breakfast. Ca formenta is more than 20 mins walk to St Marks Square if...

Good location if you are going around by the vaporetto. Staff are cheerful and friendly. One of the ladies at breakfast is grumpy, I hope everything is going well in her life.....Breakfast is good but the space is a bit strange. Well, limitation of an old small building i guess. LOVE THEIR SHAMPOO it was good on Asian hair (other...

Booked a room with a view, for pre cruise sojourn. Hotel is nicely furnished in the Venetian manor. Hotel staff was pleasant, helpful and efficient. Although our room was small, as is the case in Venice It was provided with a sizable bathroom. Breakfast was provided in the European manner, and was plentiful. Local restaurants were located just round the...

We stayed in this friendly, small hotel by recommendation of friends who come here every year for the Biennale, which is just round the corner. As we travelled with our dog, the hotel was just perfect. Clean, tidy, friendly, good choice for Breakfast thanks to Levita, the lady who assists every morning. There are parks close by which was convenient...

The hotel is in an excellent location with lots of restaurants around (except the one right below the hotel which has bad service, bad food and they overcharge) there are several "pubs" around it too. The distance from and to Saint Marks's Square is great, not very long walk and if you can catch the vaporetto quite quickly from Arsenale...

Arriving... at the hotel was easy as its right by Arsenale boat stop, we were greeted at reception by a lovely man who was very polite and quickly checked us in. It took us over an hour by boat from the airport so upon arrival, we were freezing but the hotel did not dissapoint and was very warm, as was...

We went as a couple for a cheap getaway with some couple friends of ours. We were after a good location to get into marco polo square and the main routes around venice. This hotel allowed us to do just this but not break the bank. Within less than 10 mins walk we were there. We stopped at the Arsenale...

This hotel is about a 10-15 walk from St. Mark's Square - the location of the hotel is on a quiet, wide street that has several restaurants and is right on the lagoon. Great views when you step outside! It is easily accessible from where the water taxi will drop you off - there are two bridges to go over,...

First of all: great location. For the rest less than average rather poor. Bathroom with mould over the shower, along the shower, non-functioning towel-radiator. Extremely stiff beds and flat pillows. Wi-Fi not working in our room. English-speaking channels on TV hardly visible. Stained bed-covers, chairs and sofa. The place needs a thorough remake!

Staying in Castello

Neighbourhood Profile
Castello
Castello is the largest of the six sestieri (districts), and the only one not facing onto the Grand Canal. More than half of Castello is situated within Arsenale, the naval base, which occupies over one-fifth the area of Venice. This gentrified maritime neighbourhood feels busy but casual. Castello’s side streets are laid back, with small boats lining canals criss-crossed by laundry. Semiannual exhibitions add a strong artsy current to the Arsenale area. Via Garibaldi in Castello, with its shops and bars, has one of Venice's rare straight and wide boulevards. When a large ship turns around the Lido to enter the Giudecca Canal, the startling sight creates an illusion that it will run aground right on Via Garibaldi! Families treasure Giardini near the island's tip, green with rare trees and grass, and Riva degli Schiavoni is a popular spot for Venetians to take a stroll to watch the sunset.
