Spent 2night this sister note to Grand Monaco &Canal Hotel and was the best position to be. Only thing is finding the hotel as there is no sign. Easy if go to the Grand Monaco to check-in. Even if it is along busiest alley room was quiet and very comfy. 1minute walk and you are at the Piazza San Marco...

There can not be a better location in Venice than on the San Marco square itself! What I really like about this hotel is that it offers all the benefits of a large hotel, yet is small enough to have its own "magic" (as well as a lower price-tag than its large sister-hotel). The rooms and facilities are comfortable. We...

Beautiful room, excellent bed, A/C is perfect for hot Venice summer day respite! Bathroom is magnificent, plenty of power outlets. Did not have breakfast. Only there for two days, wish it were longer.

This hotel was in a great location - literally a minute from Piazza San Marco if that. Despite this, we were not disturbed throughout our stay by any noise and we stayed during July - peak time! The hotel was very clean and our room was very spacious and comfortable (air con and fridge were an absolute blessing). The only...

The outside of this hotel is 1 door, and enter into a small lobby. This is because it is right at St. Mark's Square, and is surrounded by the finest of stores. Once inside, the rooms are modern and large. Some rooms have a view of the Gondoliers, others the Canal. This hotel is walking distance to everything - San...

The hotel is just a stone's throw from St. Mark's Square so the location is ideal. It is also close to lots of little shops. Our room was a good size, however, it was rather dark. The vanities were separate from the shower and toilet and I had quite a surprise when I drew back the sheer window covering to...

Had a nice, quiet, very spacious single room in THE best Venice location!! It belongs to the five star Hotel Monaco, which is directly at the Canale Grande. You are only one block away from the Vaporetto station to the airport etc etc...FANTASTIC!

The Palazzo Selvadego is a quiet, charming boutique hotel in a centuries-old building just behind San Marcos Piazza. It is owned and run by the Hotel Monaco, which is a much more modern hotel 1.5 blocks away (3 min walk) on the Grand Canal. The rooms at the Palazzo are so charming but there is no real hotel lobby to...

The Palazzo Salvadego is extremely well situated in Venice, just a few steps away from Piazza San Marco. The hotel itself is well appointed, the rooms are spacious, the bathrooms are huge, with separated double sink area. BUT the bed linens are absolutely AWEFUL! They were so rough that after the second night I started having rashes all over my...

After a business trip nearby, I decided to stay a couple of nights in Venice to enjoy carnival. I stayed at Palazzo Salvadego following its good reviews. It was not a good experience. First of all this is not a 4 star Hotel, it is more like a 2 star. It is extremely expensive for what it offers. The only...

Staying in San Marco

Neighbourhood Profile
San Marco
The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.
