Pricey but worth it!! Great rooms in a palace!! Beautiful gardens for breakfast/ having a coffee. Breakfast was nicely presented and good options. Great location close to Ca' Dor stop. Need to look at hotel map to find. Not sketchy at all. 2 nights not enough!!

From the moment we arrived here, the staff couldn't do enough to make us feel welcome. A beautiful room, Prosecco on arrival, and a real sense that the hoteliers really wanted us to enjoy our time in Venice, whether it involved arranging boat trips or making dinner suggestions. A beautiful garden in which to breakfast (incidentally, the breakfasts we had...

We stayed 3 nights in room 23 which is a corner junior suite overlooking the small canal at the rear of the hotel. The room itself is large with twin aspect windows and a large very comfortable double bed. The airconditioning worked well and it was quite hot at the time of our visit. There is a small entrance passage...

This is a lovely little boutique hotel but it may have been a little too quiet for us as I felt I needed to whisper everywhere I went. The hotel staff is very welcoming and they let you know that this is your new home in venice which is very sweet!! The room is very large and is beautifully designed....

We stayed for eight wonderful nights at the Palazzo Abadessa. This small converted palazzo is perfectly situated in quiet location in Canareggio only a couple of minutes from the busy Strada Nuova - so offers the best of both worlds. Managed by a small, hardworking team, this hotel was at the other end of the scale from the large corporate...

Venice is a unique city, having no cars, buses or trucks, some of the narrowest streets and alleyways but still playing host to a huge number of tourists for much of the year. So it is a pleasure to find a hotel that provides most of the expected comforts of luxury accommodation and is yet located in a part of...

My wife & I stayed here for a long weekend for her 40th birthday & had a lovely time. From the arrival at the hotel's jetty via a james bond-eque private water-taxi (thoroughly recommended even though it was 90 euros each-way!) to the pleasant drink we had in the peaceful garden before we were picked up, nothing was too much...

We travel to Venice regularly and have stayed in a wide spectrum of hotels unfortunately Palazzo Abadessa dosen't quite meet expectations. It's a nice old Palazzo (but so are many others in Venice) with a very nice garden particularly good for an enjoyable summer breakfast. Unfortunately the breakfast buffet is generally quite poor in selection qulity and quantity and does...

We had six nights at the hotel in May. We chose a room called a "junior suite" that turned out to be a room with a small alcove and of course the bathroom. The room was very large by Venice standards and beautifully decorated. The hotel is a small one and has a large and quite peaceful garden attached that...

We enjoyed our 2 nights at Palazzo Abadessa. It is situated in a small street of the bustling cannaregio area, within a 5 minutes walk to the Ca d' oro vaporetto stop which makes travelling around Venice and also murano and burano very easy. The hotel is very beautifully furnished in Venetian style with all the glamor and splendor. And...

Staying in Cannaregio

Neighbourhood Profile
Cannaregio is the second largest sestiere (district) with its busy Santa Lucia train station. Many transplanted Venetians commute from the outlying areas, “terra firma” to the locals, which is shorthand for any place that is not Venice. Two Grand Canal bridges serve Cannaregio, the newest (Constitution, 2008) still a local hotbed of controversy. Ponte degli Scalzi is a busy link to the train station. Nearby shops on the Lista di Spagna offer specialties like pastries and coffee that lure Venetians with a down-to-earth attitude. The Ghetto, where the Jewish population was segregated in Cannaregio, has five historic synagogues with an active Jewish community. The Fondamente Nove bustles with foot traffic to the Rialto and San Marco while vaporettos (water taxis) head to Murano and other islands. Side streets lead into quiet picturesque neighbourhoods and palaces like Ca' d'Oro rise directly out of the water.
