The staff were awesome. So friendly. The rooms were nice, and clean. The bathroom was really clean, and seemed recently renovated. The breakfast in the morning was always the same, BUT the staff who served it made the meal very pleasant. The location is good, it's about a 1.6mile walk to San Marco Piazza, or a 50 meter walk to...

I traveled to Italy in June with my now fiance (got engaged in Venice) and this hotel was perfect. It was fairly cheap for booking last minute (80 euro per night). We arrived very late due to mechanical problems with NWA, but they had someone waiting for us. It is an easy walk from the train station and also very...

The room was clean and bathroom nicely remodeled (very small shower however). The staff not particularly friendly nor accommodating. A simple request for an extra pillow was greeted with questions. One cup of coffee offered with the breakfast and breakfast not terribly good. Internet service is very slow therefore check-in for the airport could not be completed for our return...

Stayed for two delightul days with my wife and two adult daughters. Located less than a minute's walk from the San Marcoula vaparroto stop, convenient to Pizzale Roma and the train station. Friendly welcome and comfortable lobby. Rooms were very clean and beds comfortable. Lovely views from our second floor rooms. Efficient and quiet air conditoners cooled room very effectively...

Spent a couple of nights here recently for a romantic weekend. Had a very enjoyable stay. The hotel is well located next to the grand canal and a stone's throw from the water taxi stop. It has been recently refurbished but still retains its historic character. The staff are very helpful. My only gripe would be that the breakfast wasn't...

The location of this place was its best feature. Even though it was far from a lot of the major attractions in Venice, it was next to a Vaporetto Bus Stop, which makes the public transportation a breeze for a lot less money. I still don't understand quite how the electronic tickets work for the All day Vaporetto Bus passes,...

On a Friday morning (Easter vacation weeks), it took 20 minutes to walk from train station to hotel. Only one bridge to hoist luggage up but best to pack light anyways. Clearly marked as it is right by the vaporetto stop. Very friendly staff for check-in. We had an early check-out and they were willing to work with us. Breakfast...

My girlfriend and I booked this hotel for 10th feb - 13th feb 2009. we got a superb deal - a double room for 3 nights for 150 euros, probably due to the fact that it was just before carnevale time in venice (i checked the prices for the following week and it was more than 100 euros more). to...

This hotel was immaculate and the staff were more than helpful plus had the added benefit of being just beside a vaporetto stop. I loved my stay here and would definitely recommend it to anyone else. If I had one complaint it was that there were no English channels available on the television - not so much a problem as...

The hotel was very nice. The room was was spacious and oh so clean.. The elevator was a help with all the steps. The breakfast was excellent and I must mention the women who served us was the best. The front desk service was very good. The location near the water bus stop and within walking distance to the train...

Staying in Cannaregio

Neighbourhood Profile
Cannaregio is the second largest sestiere (district) with its busy Santa Lucia train station. Many transplanted Venetians commute from the outlying areas, “terra firma” to the locals, which is shorthand for any place that is not Venice. Two Grand Canal bridges serve Cannaregio, the newest (Constitution, 2008) still a local hotbed of controversy. Ponte degli Scalzi is a busy link to the train station. Nearby shops on the Lista di Spagna offer specialties like pastries and coffee that lure Venetians with a down-to-earth attitude. The Ghetto, where the Jewish population was segregated in Cannaregio, has five historic synagogues with an active Jewish community. The Fondamente Nove bustles with foot traffic to the Rialto and San Marco while vaporettos (water taxis) head to Murano and other islands. Side streets lead into quiet picturesque neighbourhoods and palaces like Ca' d'Oro rise directly out of the water.
