We absolutely loved our stay here. We were a family of 4 and shared a room with a double and 2 single. Our room was clean and the space adequate. The breakfast was typical, meat/cheese, cereal, yogurt, fruit. This hotel is in a great location and easy to find. But by far, what made the experience most outstanding, were the...

A 700 m walk from the train and easy to find hotel. The room wad a good size with a fridge and even a balcony. The breakfast was very good and location was perfect. But by far the most memorable thing was the staff. From the booking to the checkin the staff were very nice. Marlina was exceptionally nice and...

We had a great stay at the San Marcuola. We loved the location, it was close to to the water taxi stop as well as great restaurants and shopping. The rooms were clean, we had a balcony which was nice. The breakfast was okay, not the best we had in Italy, but not the worst either. It is great value...

Staying here made my vacation in Venice perfect. A great location, wonderful service and a gorgeous room overlooking a typical canal. Just amazing.

When traveling with my wife and 2 daughters it was typically hard-to-find a room to accommodate all of us. Locanda Ca' San Marcuola had a very nice room with 1 Queen and 2 twin beds. The room was very clean and spacious with a view of a side canal directly out the window. The elevator is small and somewhat slow...

We had the large room at the top of the first flight of stairs which while renovated some time ago had a lot of character and a small balcony. Other rooms may be smaller but we were very happy with our room. Good breakfast by Venice standards. Good front desk service. Good location right on the ferry service and near...

As someone already mentioned, I was too expecting a bit more for 150euro a day hotel. --- Positives: --- Locations was great, vaporeto station 20 minutes from hotel door; not too far from anything. Clean - ish. Breakfast was served rather than self-served. --- Negatives: --- Visited in February so heating was required, which was using a noisy air conditioning...

This hotel is only small and is very well situated right by the canal - 2 vaporetto stops from Santa Lucia Railway, and a nice walk from Rialto! The rooms are quite large and comfortable, and the reception staff were very friendly and most helpful. The breakfast was great, and again nothing was too much trouble. We organised a gondola...

Venice was our last stop on our trip to Italy and I was looking for a hotel with a canal view. The location was perfect - right on the San Marcuola boat stop. We arrived by train and walked there ( about 15 mins) but I would recommend just catching the boat. Our room was on the corner so we...

In general I would expect a bit more for 140 €/night, but in Venice I guess the price is ok. We had a small room with a window on the street, but it is very quiet, so that was no problem. I guess the rooms with a canal view are great, but probably they also are quite a bit expensive....

Staying in Cannaregio

Neighbourhood Profile
Cannaregio is the second largest sestiere (district) with its busy Santa Lucia train station. Many transplanted Venetians commute from the outlying areas, “terra firma” to the locals, which is shorthand for any place that is not Venice. Two Grand Canal bridges serve Cannaregio, the newest (Constitution, 2008) still a local hotbed of controversy. Ponte degli Scalzi is a busy link to the train station. Nearby shops on the Lista di Spagna offer specialties like pastries and coffee that lure Venetians with a down-to-earth attitude. The Ghetto, where the Jewish population was segregated in Cannaregio, has five historic synagogues with an active Jewish community. The Fondamente Nove bustles with foot traffic to the Rialto and San Marco while vaporettos (water taxis) head to Murano and other islands. Side streets lead into quiet picturesque neighbourhoods and palaces like Ca' d'Oro rise directly out of the water.
