Stayed here for 2 nights in August 2012. Staff were really helpful and always smiling. Room was clean, nicely decorated and had a fridge etc. Breakfast is provided at a cafe a few mins walk away which was also fine. A nice affordable place to stay and explore Venice from

Great place to stay and had AC which is a big deal in August. Very clean, affordable and let us leave our bags after check out so we could continue to see the city as long as possible. The entrance looks like a small ancient place but is deceptive you go in and up a flight of stairs and it...

Great hotel... Only one star but More like three. Air con, blast at cafe around the corner, tv and great staff to help you. Near bus and train station. Staff gave us great directions by email on how to reach hotel and even time table and map for bus to airport. I love Venice. Great city

We stayed at Hotel ai Tolentini, June 11-14, 2012. We had a top floor corner room with a private bath. The room was very spacious and the bathroom, was a nice size. Our room had a safe, a/c (with your own remote control - fantastic!) and television. There is a great restaurant, on the lower level; we went twice! We...

My boyfriend and I were arriving into Venice late so we wanted something close to the train station that wasn't too difficult to find. Great location, quiet place, and clean. The A/C worked and we had a great 2 nights there.

We were were originally booked into a different place owned by the same people, but were moved here due to some maintenance works happenig. The move actually turned out really well - arrived around 11:30pm so Alessio came to meet us at Piazzale Roma and walked us the 5 mins to the hotel. Great service from him. The place itself...

I had a difficult time finding a room in Venice that would accommodate our party of 4. I was travelling with my teenage daughters and didn't want to be separated in different rooms. When we arrived in Venice we really had nt idea how to get to the hotel but turned out to be close to the Rialto Bridge and...

I was traveling with my friend Deb and her 2 daughters, age 18 and 15. It was a real challenge to find accommodations that could handle 4 people in a room, let alone one in Venice. The Hotel Tolentini, was very accommodating. The room was a good size, king bed, with bunk beds on the side. We all slept very...

This hotel is located about 5 minutes from the Grand Canal, the bus station and the train station. All main attractions are within walking distance or water bus stops are not far. The hotel staff were very friendly and helpful and gave us full instructions on what bus to catch from the airport and offered to meet us at the...

It's not easy to find inexpensive accommodation in Venice and I wouldn't call Hotel ai Tolentini inexpensive elsewhere. Anyway, it was what I had expected: a modest place near the bus station, the railway station and vaporetto stop. There're also some important attractions very near the hotel: Scuola di San Rocco, the churches of San Rocco and Frari etc. The...

Staying in Santa Croce

Neighbourhood Profile
Santa Croce
Santa Croce gained importance as a sestiere (district) when Piazzale Roma was created in the 1930s to bring cars and buses close to the center of Venice. Constitution Bridge spans the Grand Canal linking Piazzale Roma to the train station. This area buzzes with energy from travelers and students. Historic palaces and former industrial buildings house some departments of Ca' Foscari and IUAV Architecture universities. On the Fondaco dei Turchi, Venice's Museum of Natural History offers Venetians prehistoric thrills, plus an overview of lagoon fish and wildlife. The Grand Canal, northern boundary of Santa Croce, is lined with palaces and decorated by the tall green dome of San Simeon Piccolo. Ca' Pesaro attracts Venetians to its contemporary art exhibitions. The Grand Canal exposes only one face of these buildings. On the opposite side, the palace often interacts with a square or a busy street to represent its neighbourhood identity.

“Room 204 (where our friends stayed) was located over alley but not over restaurant below, thus was probably a bit quieter than ours. Don't get me wrong, I had no complaint about the noise level from Room 201 ... but just saying down the hall would have been a little more quiet.”
