Clean and comfortable. Have stayed there previously and knew what to expect. The welcome was very friendly and the staff are courteous and helpful. Proximity to the people mover and Piazza Roma couldn't be better.

The main attraction to the hotel is the location as it is very close to the train station which is handy for back packers. However the room was very small, we were given a single room and they had just set a put up bed next to it which wasn't great as we were expecting a double bed. The wifi...

This hotel is ideal for people arriving into Piazza Roma - only 5 minute walk. Main vaporetta stop just around the corner, canal and other stop right outside. Co-op almost next door for groceries. Our room was quite spacious especially the bathroom, we had no view but got a good price. Elevator only for luggage - and lots of stairs...

This is a nice hotel for cruisers as it's the closest to the terminal; easy to walk there and/or use the people mover for 1.30 euros. Walk around the corner and you are in the piazza Roma and the waterbus stop is outside the hotel for Murano or just 50 yards away for Burano. The room was basic with no...

Good hotel. One of the more hotels found within the channels of Venice. Room and good bathroom, but no television. Good employees, enough morning coffee and very close to the supermarket, train station and piazza rome. I submit to anyone looking for a great cost benefit.

Stayed here with my daughter in July 2014 for three nights. We thought the location was great, a few mins walk from the train station and by the Vaparetto stops and Plaza de la Roma, from where we caught the aerobus back to the airport. Large bathroom, good wifi, breakfast was fine. The air conditioning was great, large bathroom and...

It's in a quiet location so there wasn't much noise at night, but if you walk a little bit, bam, there's the Grand Canal, and a short walk brings you to the train station. Across the Grand Canal is a great restaurant, F30. There's a shared bathroom, ours only shared with one other room, but if you don't lock the...

We stayed here one night because we've heard some good reviews about monastery stays. Maybe in other monasteries but not this one. This was in our opinion a budget hotel. Very convenient to the water S. Marta stop #52 (lines 5.2, 4.1, 5.2, 4.2 and 6) -its outside the front door and very close to Piazza Roma and the train...

We were three couples taking up three rooms for one night, in order to board the cruise ship the following day. To go to the terminal, all that is needed is to walk around 150 metres round the corner and take the 'people mover' (or monorail, which costs €1.30 per person), which is the next stop to the terminal. It...

Staying in Santa Croce

Neighbourhood Profile
Santa Croce
Santa Croce gained importance as a sestiere (district) when Piazzale Roma was created in the 1930s to bring cars and buses close to the center of Venice. Constitution Bridge spans the Grand Canal linking Piazzale Roma to the train station. This area buzzes with energy from travelers and students. Historic palaces and former industrial buildings house some departments of Ca' Foscari and IUAV Architecture universities. On the Fondaco dei Turchi, Venice's Museum of Natural History offers Venetians prehistoric thrills, plus an overview of lagoon fish and wildlife. The Grand Canal, northern boundary of Santa Croce, is lined with palaces and decorated by the tall green dome of San Simeon Piccolo. Ca' Pesaro attracts Venetians to its contemporary art exhibitions. The Grand Canal exposes only one face of these buildings. On the opposite side, the palace often interacts with a square or a busy street to represent its neighbourhood identity.
