I was rather worried by the 1 star rating, but this turned out to be a really fantastic find. Excellent value for money, very clean and tidy, great shower and comfortable beds. Helpful, friendly staff. We had a triple garden/church view and a twin with a canal view. The triple room didn't leave us much floor space, but this is...

We have just returned from Venice this week, and booked into the Salieri as it was much cheaper than many hotels in Venice. We didn't expect much from it, but it exceeded our expectations! Our room was spotless, and was cleaned everyday. The cleaner was slightly overzealous about tidyness however as she did like to move our things around and...

Rooms cleaned on a daily basis to a high standard and clean towels daily. The staff were all very friendly and helpful. We had a problem during our stay ‘not related to the hotel’ but the staff and hotel owner went out of their way to help. Can’t thank them enough. A highly recommended hotel, great value for money. The...

We stayed in triple room #2, over looking the 'garden'. Well the garden is now their restaurant 'Libo'. Noisy while open 8:00-23:30. Room is besic, tidy but small, std for Venice. Excellent location, 5 min walk from train/bus station. Pick room on Minotto / canal side.

The Locanda Salieri is an excellent choice for those people staying in Venice who don't want to fork out a vast amount of money on a hotel room in which they will only spend a few hours per day. In relation to other hotels in the city, this is very good value indeed. Ignore the one star rating, I think...

My husband and I stayed 2 nights at this B&B in May. The location was close to the train station, but a ways from St. Marks and the Rialto and such. Regardless we like the hotel. The room was by far the smallest one we stayed in Italy, and the bathroom was even smaller. But it served it's purpose well,...

I stayed in the hotel in November of 2006 for two nights with a friend, after reading the reviews on tripadvisor. The hotel is clean, has an excellent location (close to the bus station, lively but not overcrowded area) and provides good value for money. The room was charming but very small, although I had no problems with that, it...

You generally get what you pay for but in this case you get a bit more .... Let's get this right - 5 minutes walk from the bus station (OK and 2 bridges!) which is 3 Euros from the airport. Balcony overlooking a canal, a reasonable breakfast - which keeps you going to lunch, an en suite - cleaned room...

Good location, clean, comfortable and quiet. Breakfasts were fine although we avoided ham and cheese for a few days on our return home. However, on our first evening we went in to the restaurant for dinner at 7.30pm to be told that they were fully booked for the evening. We were about to leave when the hotel manager (?) owner(?)...

This hotel is close to P. Roma which is why we booked it. However you do have to carry your luggage over some bridges to get to it and it did take us some work to actually find it. The hotel is shabby (not shabby chic, but just shabby). The furnishings look really bad. But the bathroom was very clean....

Staying in Santa Croce

Neighbourhood Profile
Santa Croce
Santa Croce gained importance as a sestiere (district) when Piazzale Roma was created in the 1930s to bring cars and buses close to the center of Venice. Constitution Bridge spans the Grand Canal linking Piazzale Roma to the train station. This area buzzes with energy from travelers and students. Historic palaces and former industrial buildings house some departments of Ca' Foscari and IUAV Architecture universities. On the Fondaco dei Turchi, Venice's Museum of Natural History offers Venetians prehistoric thrills, plus an overview of lagoon fish and wildlife. The Grand Canal, northern boundary of Santa Croce, is lined with palaces and decorated by the tall green dome of San Simeon Piccolo. Ca' Pesaro attracts Venetians to its contemporary art exhibitions. The Grand Canal exposes only one face of these buildings. On the opposite side, the palace often interacts with a square or a busy street to represent its neighbourhood identity.
