Venice , the city of romance , turned out to be the city of nightmares for me when I paid it a visit in the fourth week of November 2016. I visited several European capitals (Paris,Amsterdam ,London,Berlin, the Egyptian capital, and New York..) , and Venice is by far my worst experience. Tha nightmare started at the airport, especially with... More

Venice is a beautiful city and this hotel was a fantastic base. The room was immaculate and well presented the staff were friendly and helpful. But best of all the food was amazing and the chef did everything he could to accommodate our needs. I can't recommend this hotel enough

Perfect for a couples weekend. Very central (2 min walk to the Rialto Bridge), quiet, clean with friendly staff. Excellent breakfast with Continental and English options. Good value for money and highly recommended. Time your arrival right and step off your water taxi in to reception.

Nicely tucked away in a quiet location, but just minutes from the Rialto Bridge and the main tourist drag, this elegant hotel has a perfect situation. Although we had booked a deluxe twin room, we were delighted to discover that we had been given a complimentary upgrade to a junior suite, complete with canal view. As might be expected from... We stayed at this hotel 4 nights at the end of May. After lots of research we deduced that the key thing in Venice is the location and plumped for the Ai Reali. Located not even 5 mins from the Rialto bridge and 5-10 mins from St Marks this hotel is great. Arriving late at night from the Airport by... More

We stayed here for 4 nights for our 11 year anniversary. Its one of the most stunning hotels we have stayed at. The staff are incredibly polite and couldn't have been more helpful when I wanted to change rooms. I really recommended the blue junior suite room which over looks the small bridge and canal! We ate at the restaurant... More

The hotel is in a fantastic location, very central. The staff were very friendly and helpful and we enjoyed our stay there. Our room was large and well fitted out. One thing we thought was poor was having to pay to use the Spa facilities.

We did not like our stay at this hotel at all unfortunately. It may be a SLH, but the interior is cheaply finished, the service mediocre and the rooms not worth mentioning. The only positive is the location. There are other and much better options in Venice. Ai Reali is not worth the money.

The Ai Reali is an amazing property with superb staff. We arrived by water taxi direct from the Train station - however, it is close to the Rialto stop of the Vaporatto (though perhaps not easy to find for the newcomer). It is off the crowded path but just down Fava street from the main route between Rialto and St.... More

Staying in Castello

Neighbourhood Profile
Castello
Castello is the largest of the six sestieri (districts), and the only one not facing onto the Grand Canal. More than half of Castello is situated within Arsenale, the naval base, which occupies over one-fifth the area of Venice. This gentrified maritime neighbourhood feels busy but casual. Castello’s side streets are laid back, with small boats lining canals criss-crossed by laundry. Semiannual exhibitions add a strong artsy current to the Arsenale area. Via Garibaldi in Castello, with its shops and bars, has one of Venice's rare straight and wide boulevards. When a large ship turns around the Lido to enter the Giudecca Canal, the startling sight creates an illusion that it will run aground right on Via Garibaldi! Families treasure Giardini near the island's tip, green with rare trees and grass, and Riva degli Schiavoni is a popular spot for Venetians to take a stroll to watch the sunset.
