This hotel is in a good location without being right in the middle of the noise. The rooms are smallish, as are the bathrooms, however, it is a true old European hotel. Very charming, but what makes this hotel special is the staff. We enjoyed...More
Very easy to find as it's in the square of Santa Maria Formosa. On check in the staff were very helpful and showed us the easiest routes to the various attractions. Our room was on the 1st floor and over looked the square. The room...More
The hotel is located in the center of Venice in an open square. The lift was out of service, but the staff were kind enough to carry our luggage upstairs. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful with providing us directions to all our points...More
Lovely, quaint hotel in a charming quiet square. Fabulous hotel staff, great central safe location. Great balcony view. Delicious simple continental breakfast. Staff carried bags upstairs. Highly recommend, will definitely go back.
The staff here are so helpful and friendly. The place is very old but Venice is all about ancient things. It was clean and tidy. I read few bad reviews but I don't think they were true. It be great for short stay.

Castello is the largest of the six sestieri (districts), and the only one not facing onto the Grand Canal. More than half of Castello is situated within Arsenale, the naval base, which occupies over one-fifth the area of Venice. This gentrified maritime neighbourhood feels busy but casual. Castello’s side streets are laid back, with small boats lining canals criss-crossed by laundry. Semiannual exhibitions add a
strong artsy current to the Arsenale area. Via Garibaldi in Castello, with its shops and bars, has one of Venice's rare straight and wide boulevards. When a large ship turns around the Lido to enter the Giudecca Canal, the startling sight creates an illusion that it will run aground right on Via Garibaldi! Families treasure Giardini near the island's tip, green with rare trees and grass, and Riva degli Schiavoni is a popular spot for Venetians to take a stroll to watch the sunset.

Sorry, forgot to mention that private water taxis can also be hired at the airport and leave from a landing stage within walking distance - although it is a bit of a walk, you can't get lost as there is pretty good signage. Try to book your water taxi before you go to ensure that one will be waiting for you - even less hassle when you arrive at Marco Polo. The journey across the lagoon into Venice and right to your hotel by private water taxi, in my opinion, is well worth the cost and a wonderful start to the holiday.
