We found this place on the web as we were looking for something near both the Rialto bridge and St Marks Square. The rooms on the third floor are quite nice once you get there after all the stairs. It was extremely comfortable and the breakfast was OK (great coffee). The cleaner was very helpful if you needed anything and...

The Hotel Locanda Ca' del Console is perfectly situated for access to all of the main attractions that Venice has to offer. Our "Room of Dreams" overlooked the canal, which added to the feeling of being part of Venice, yet still maintaining a wonderful serenity. We were made to feel so very welcome and at home by the members of...

this was a very difficult place to find so do yourself a favor and hire a porter when you arrive by boat at either Rialto or St Marco also travel light, there are so many winding passageways some no more than a meter wide and so many steps to negotiate not least the ones that lead to this bed and...

The hotel refused to relay a message from the water taxi company because they wanted me to book through them ! Also they asked me to pay cash before our stay was over, Other than that, it was fine. It is disturbing though about the water taxi incident.

Locanda Ca' del Consle: Positives -It seemed to be in a decent location (near the center of Venice). The negatives: -Reliability. I had read some reviews that questioned the reliability. After sending two emails, one a month in advance and one a couple days in advance, that we would be arriving late (around 8:30 pm) nobody was at the hotel...

We book 3 days triple room. Upon arrival nobody new where it was (according to the address they use on the ad) Called the hotel and talked, she said an attendant was on her way to meet us at specific place in 15 min. After 1 hr wait and several calls back and forth, we decided to find it ourselves....

On arrival we were shown our room which was not the room we paid for. We were expecting a room with a balcony overlooking the canal but was told that room was full so got downgraded (without a discount). The lady was very rude on several occasions. Room we did receive was very nice decor and comfortable bed although a...

we stayed for 3 nights in october 2011. We found it really quite easy to get to from the map provided by the hotel. We were really pleased with the service and cleanliness of the place. Breakfast was simple but was nice and there was plenty of cereals, bread rolls etc. Our Room had a canal view and was really...

This was the second time I stayed here, and the second time the management had lost the booking. The first time the proprietor had to upgrade me to a superior room, which was fine; this time, she offered me a room that was basically a cupboard that was being used as an office. She tried to pretend that this was...

We went there with our two boys aged 7 & 9 for a week. Our room was the "Emperor's room", about 50 square meters with a view on a nice little canal. I have not seen the other rooms; apparently, ours is the largest one. The parents' bed was absolutely perfect and the kids were on a super sized convertible....

Staying in Castello

Neighbourhood Profile
Castello is the largest of the six sestieri (districts), and the only one not facing onto the Grand Canal. More than half of Castello is situated within Arsenale, the naval base, which occupies over one-fifth the area of Venice. This gentrified maritime neighbourhood feels busy but casual. Castello’s side streets are laid back, with small boats lining canals criss-crossed by laundry. Semiannual exhibitions add a strong artsy current to the Arsenale area. Via Garibaldi in Castello, with its shops and bars, has one of Venice's rare straight and wide boulevards. When a large ship turns around the Lido to enter the Giudecca Canal, the startling sight creates an illusion that it will run aground right on Via Garibaldi! Families treasure Giardini near the island's tip, green with rare trees and grass, and Riva degli Schiavoni is a popular spot for Venetians to take a stroll to watch the sunset.
