We are a family of 6, youngest is 15, and we stayed at the Dona Palace for four nights over New Years Eve. Overall, the hotel was adequate, but not great value for the money. We reserved two suites. The suites were large enough and each had a separate sitting area with a pull-out couch that served as a second...

What a fantastic location!! It makes so much difference being really close to absolutely everything. The hotel is a little tricky to find, down a back street off the North Eastern corner of St Marks square. I recommend printing off the Expedia directions to the hotel before trying to find it. The (standard) room was really clean with good decor,...

We booked this hotel through a tour, along with plane, train, and transfer reservations for Rome, Florence, and Venice. We were very pleased with the location, and feel we got an excellent room for our money. We didn't ask for an upgrade even though our elegant room faced the outer wall of another building over a narrow walkway. There were...

My husband and I stayed in the Dona Palace for the last 2 nights of our honeymoon - and were delighted with our choice. We booked a juniour suite which was large and spacious with very high ceilings, and decorated in typical venitian style. Our room was on the corner of the building, with a view of the bridge of...

A small hotel hidden just off St. Mark's Square. Beautiful large room, with a large marble bathroom. The room where breakfast is served has a balcony overlooking the canal. A real gem.

Booked the executive suite for last two nights of our honeymoon. A little more expensive than the suite but worth evey penny. Room was huge!! Few steps up to super private rooftop terrace plus hot tub. Amazing view across the city. Didnt want to leave the rooftop but had to do a bit of sightseeing! Staff were excellent, especially considering...

Wanted to stay centrally and the Donna Palace has an amazing location. Going in November meant we could take advantage of the low season and get a good deal. We went for a canal facing suite which at 195 Euro wasn't the cheapest room we could get but were paying for extra luxury and we were very pleased with the...

This hotel was so handy to everything. We arrived via Alilaguna boat from Marco Polo airport & found the hotel quite easily given the directions in a few minutes. The room we had was small but perfect otherwise - we heard that some of the other rooms were bigger but we were happy enough. Breakfast was very good & goes through...

I cannot say enough about our just-concluded stay at the Dona Palace; it is just what one imagines an upscale "little" European hotel should be. Enormous room with glowing wood floors and marble walls. Comfy bed, luxurious bathrobe, slippers and easily adjusted temperature controls. Ample closets and a huge, well-appointed, bathroom, including a heated towl rack. (If I had one...

After much deliberation I booked Dona Palace for Halloween for 4 adults and one child, based on reviews in Tripadvisor. I booked a double and a triple room. I was led to believe that the hotel would do everything it could to make a special event, special - upgrades/wine on arrival etc. It was both an anniversary and a birthday...

Staying in San Marco

Neighbourhood Profile
San Marco
The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.
