The hotel was very much minimalist in its approach to furnishing the rooms. The bed was fairly comfy, yet the bathroom, wardrobe and tables were all cobbled together and appeared 2nd hand. Tiny shower and no bath mat. The safe in the room was not bolted down and in fact I carried it to the front desk (1 handed it... More

This was our first trip to Venice and it will certainly not be our last. We primarily chose this hotel because of the good reviews. We were not disappointed. From the time we arrived and throughout our stay, everything was perfect and the staff was very helpful and courteous. Breakfast for € 5 on top was plentiful and great. Free... More

This is a B&B. There is no restaurant or bar, just a reception desk, small breakfast area and clean, comfortable rooms for a reasonable price in a good location. This accommodation is a few minutes walk from the Ospedale (Hospital) water boat stop which makes access easy and the main tourist areas are still only 15 minutes or so walk... More

I highly recommend this B&B it completely met our expectations. Extremely clean and cost rooms. The internet worked in the room perfectly. It is in a lovely residential district with fantastic restaurants a short walk from St Marks square. If you are a B&B type of traveler this is for you.

We're one of the "lucky" ones who got a broken air conditioner at a B&B in Venice. Looking at comments of other places around town, this seems to be a not infrequent problem, don't know if it's because of some issues with their electrical system. In our case, 2 of our 3 nights had no air conditioning. Had to keep... More

Lovely large room on top floor (No. 6 - beware if you find stairs difficult!) with good air con and spacious bathroom. Excellent, plentiful breakfast (5 euros) served in 2 'shifts' - 8.30 or 9.00 - by the delightful, hardworking Lala (or there's a cafe next door if you prefer to eat at a different time). Fantastic location in terms... More

This hotel is a fire hazard. It appears to be unmanned after 9pm of an evening and from the top floor (where we were located) there is no way out except down the stairs. There is no lift. It is a very old building but not too unpleasant; it was clean and the towels were changed & beds made. There... More

We have a security certificate from local government and fireworkes. From the top of a building you have always to go down to escape from fire. So you are very ignorant. I don't know where you have booked your stay but it is everywhere written that our checkin closes at 9 pm and also that we don't have a lift.... More

Stayed for a weekend here while we visited venice. It was great to find somewhere to stay on the island so close to restaurants and cafes at a reasonable price. Our room was simple but comfortable and had everything we needed. The staff were very friendly and extremely helpful in showing us where to go.

We loved our stay here..it is nicely situated in a quiet part of Venice, yet only a 15 minute walk to St Marks. There is a great little coffee/patisserie right next door, and the service was super friendly. Really close to the Ospedale vaporetto, and no issues with finding it whatsoever. Great rates, friendly staff and an overall great experience!

Easy check-in, friendly receptionist who quickly told us about ACTV public transportation and where to go and gave us two maps, made our trip! Room was clean, spacious and beautiful. Leaving at 6am for the Airport, the hotel automatically provided a tray with breakfast in our room the night before with toaster, water boiler, bread, spreads, fruit and everything, OUTSTANDING!... Staying in Castello

Neighbourhood Profile
Castello
Castello is the largest of the six sestieri (districts), and the only one not facing onto the Grand Canal. More than half of Castello is situated within Arsenale, the naval base, which occupies over one-fifth the area of Venice. This gentrified maritime neighbourhood feels busy but casual. Castello’s side streets are laid back, with small boats lining canals criss-crossed by laundry. Semiannual exhibitions add a strong artsy current to the Arsenale area. Via Garibaldi in Castello, with its shops and bars, has one of Venice's rare straight and wide boulevards. When a large ship turns around the Lido to enter the Giudecca Canal, the startling sight creates an illusion that it will run aground right on Via Garibaldi! Families treasure Giardini near the island's tip, green with rare trees and grass, and Riva degli Schiavoni is a popular spot for Venetians to take a stroll to watch the sunset.
