We were so fortunate to be able to stay here, as they are usually booked months in advance. My mother, sister & I stayed in the Amber room, with a lovely balcony overlooking the canal. Much gondala traffic and singing just below, it was delightful! The room was very well appointed with lovely sheets and bedcovers. The best part of... More

I loved staying at B&B Al Teatro. The location was wonderful, off quiet uncrowded Giglio Square yet still close to Piazza San Marcos, the Giglio vaporetto stop, and other major sites. After exploring, I loved sitting in my sunlit room, with beautiful “terrazzo veneziano” floors, watching the passing gondolas and boat traffic, listening to music and singing rising from the... We were so fortunate to stay with Eleanora. Unknown to us San Marco square was flooded due to high tide and rains and she outfitted us with boots so we could sightsee despite the conditions. She also made great suggestions on what to see outside the high tourist areas and great restaurants. The room itself had a great view and... More

This bed & breakfast is comfortable, quiet, and lovely. The location is great and really convenient. Vaporeto stop on the Grand Canal is nearby. Gelato is also nearby, as are good restaurants. Host is gracious with lots of good information. Our room looked right out on a popular gondola route so the view of gondolas going by (with frequent evening... More

We stayed two nights with Eleanora. We had the Amber room which was clean and offered a lovely view of the canals with gondolas going by. Allowed us walk most places with a little use of the vaporettos. Cappuccinos were great but breakfast was simply okay. We would recommend for those wanting to stay further from very touristy areas near... More

We stayed with Eleonora in the Green Room and had an amazing time. We loved how quaint and well located the hotel was. It was directly on the canal with 3 windows that all opened up to the canal which meant gondoliers going by the room from sunup to sundown. This means you can literally experience Venice at all times... More

No true complaints, but there wasn't much special to report either. The breakfasts were all pre-packaged breads, etc - nothing fresh except fruit. I like staying where the breads come right from a bakery or better yet the kitchen. So, breakfast was a bit of a disappointment. But the cappuccinos are very nice. :) Ask for the room with the... My fiancée and me stayed 3 nights at Al Teatro Bed and Breakfast and it was a very good experience. We discovered the Bed and Breakfast on tripadvisor and the perfect location encouraged us to book. Situated in San Marco area, only 5 minutes from San Marco square in a typical Venetian Building with views on Canals where from your... More

We had a three night stay with Eleonara and were so happy with everything. Our room was beautiful, very clean and the bed was comfy and huge. In the day we could listen to Gondoliers go up and down the canal outside and sing and we could lean out of the windows and watch the Gondola's go by. Breakfast was... More

When going to Venice we wanted to avoid the "tourist" traps and really experience the real Venice. This is exactly what we got from Al Teatro Bed and Breakfast and our friendly host Eleonora. From the first moment we opened the door and received a Buongiorno from upstairs we knew we we're "home" We asked Eleonora for some restaurant recommendations... More

Staying in San Marco

Neighbourhood Profile
San Marco
The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.
