Stayed in Venice for 3 nights. Hotel is extremely easy to find when visiting Venice for the first time (2 minute walk from the water taxi drop off, you cannot get lost). Welcoming owner and staff. Room is simple and clean with all basics necessary: AC, WiFi, Fridge. Quiet area with no noise day or night. Breakfast was very simple:...

This was a very simple and nice hotel to live in Venice for 3 nights. We asked beforehand to have a room with wifi. But then we arrived at our room and it was poor reception! We ended up sitting in the breakfast/reception room area later in the evenings just to have some decent wifi. We got a room with...

Our stay at Alloggi Barbaria was great. Fousto was a great host and greeted us when we arrived. He gave us many recommendations for dining as well as sightseeing. The room we had was very roomy and comfortable. The beds were comfortable, which was great after our full days of touring around Venice.

We stayed for 2 nights after our cruise ended. I was really amazed with the decent size of the rooms and high ceilings. This is a basic standard B & B. A basic breakfast was served in the mornings. The lady was very friendly and could help us in English. Arrivederci Venice.

My girlfriend and I booked our room here for June and had a wonderful stay. It's the 2nd or 3rd stop taking the Alilaguna boat "Blue Line" from the airport about 20 minute ride. Same with taking it back to the airport, 2nd or 3rd last stop before the airport. Compared to 90 minutes to Saint Marco Square. There's a...

If you are looking for a basic hotel to stay that is clean and run by VERY NICE, ACCOMODATING people, this is the place to stay. We were in Italy for a 2 week trip and Venice was our first stop. Stayed here with my wife and 2 grown kids. It is a 5 minute walk from the Ospedale water...

Great value and near to the waterbus, the staff were very helpful. I would happily return for another break and recommend to other travellers. The breakfast is basic bit more than adequate, the mini bar has a good choice at great value 3 euros for a small bottle of prosecco.

Just returned from 3 nights at the Alloggi Barbaria. This is a lovely little place to stay. Very reasonably priced for Venice. Very nice hosts who run this establishment. Set in a well placed area for the vaparetto arriving from the airport and within walking distance of the main sites. Pleasant breakfast, large room with comfortable beds. Thank you for...

We spent 4 nights here on our honeymoon last week. Excellent customer service, breakfast as discussed in previous threads, rooms cleaned daily to a high standard. Fausto and his staff went above and beyond for our stay. Highly recommend if you are after a simple but great stay in Venice. An upgrade of beds could move this to a 4...

Staying in Castello

Neighbourhood Profile
Castello is the largest of the six sestieri (districts), and the only one not facing onto the Grand Canal. More than half of Castello is situated within Arsenale, the naval base, which occupies over one-fifth the area of Venice. This gentrified maritime neighbourhood feels busy but casual. Castello’s side streets are laid back, with small boats lining canals criss-crossed by laundry. Semiannual exhibitions add a strong artsy current to the Arsenale area. Via Garibaldi in Castello, with its shops and bars, has one of Venice's rare straight and wide boulevards. When a large ship turns around the Lido to enter the Giudecca Canal, the startling sight creates an illusion that it will run aground right on Via Garibaldi! Families treasure Giardini near the island's tip, green with rare trees and grass, and Riva degli Schiavoni is a popular spot for Venetians to take a stroll to watch the sunset.
