Host very welcoming and contacted us prior to arrival to find out what time we would be arriving. Gave us door code as we were arriving "out of hours". Excellent location. Near to a great pizza/kebab bar. Very near the San Zaccaria waterbus stop.

2 minutes from Piazza San Marco and 1 block from the Grand Canal, this nice Locanda is a perfect place to stay in Venice. It's clean and have all you need and costs less than 1/2 of a similar hotel in Venice.

This is a very basic bed and Breakfast which was perfect for us. The place is clean, the rooms are clean and tidy. Breakfast is basic. The staff are very friendly. The hotel is in an excellent location close to san Marco square but out of the noise of tour groups.

Made reservations and prepaid from home or we would have looked for something else after the first night. Owner was personable and helpful but accommodations were minimal and breakfast was on the spartan side...packaged breads, sugary fruit drink...obviously cutting corners. We stayed in convents in Rome, Florence, and Orvieto and the breakfasts were comparatively sumptuous...variety of fresh breads, meats, cheeses,...

We found this place to be our worst experience ever! First, the lobby is shared with bags of dirty, smelly laundry. The friendly manager showed us to our very disappointing 1950's decor room. Our daughters (12 & 14) were given fold-up cots (circa WWII). Our bed was extremely uncomfortable! I think my sleeping bag on a cement floor would have...

We staid 3 nights in Locanda Cavanella, with 36 EUR/per night for double room with breakfast. The city tax was 1.75 EUR/night/person. which was too much for 1 star hotel. The room was nice , warm and clean with a very small bathroom with shower. The buffet breakfast was poor, in fact was not a real buffet as long as...

Ideally situated right where it is all happening. Just five minutes walk from St Marks Square, about three minutes to the vaporetto stop from the airport and the Grand Canal. A quite charming old building with decorative touches to the walls and ceilings. Nice period furniture in the rooms. Comfortable beds and good double glazed windows. A new owner, Aldo,...

Been there 2 days, found them by chance, rerouted by an overbooking. Very pleasant, helpful manager, changed 10 days ago, absolutely central near s. Marco, clean newly furbished room, stilish. Do not expect luxury and wide spaces, you have the Danieli nearby for that at less than 500eur/night. Spent 110 eur for a double and it is good value.

Finding this hotel reminded me of the old Peter Sarstead song with the line Born in the back streets of Naples ... except you are in Venice. This hotel is not always manned but a short phone call to the emergency number will get you quick service if no one is on reception. The hotel is what it says it...

We spent one night in the Locanda Cavanella in Venice and would recommend it to anyone who wants to stay in Venice at as very reasonable price for a central location. The hotel is in one of the small streets behind St Mark's Square and whilst tricky to find initially, was very convenient. The hotel, somewhat like Venice itself, has...

Staying in Castello

Neighbourhood Profile
Castello
Castello is the largest of the six sestieri (districts), and the only one not facing onto the Grand Canal. More than half of Castello is situated within Arsenale, the naval base, which occupies over one-fifth the area of Venice. This gentrified maritime neighbourhood feels busy but casual. Castello’s side streets are laid back, with small boats lining canals criss-crossed by laundry. Semiannual exhibitions add a strong artsy current to the Arsenale area. Via Garibaldi in Castello, with its shops and bars, has one of Venice's rare straight and wide boulevards. When a large ship turns around the Lido to enter the Giudecca Canal, the startling sight creates an illusion that it will run aground right on Via Garibaldi! Families treasure Giardini near the island's tip, green with rare trees and grass, and Riva degli Schiavoni is a popular spot for Venetians to take a stroll to watch the sunset.
