This small hotel is exactly what I wanted, typically venetian and a fair price. The rooms are not huge but quaint with venetian style furnishings. A private bathroom with toiletries and plenty of hot water. The hotel was very clean and the staff friendly and helpful. Breakfast was ok, a selection of tea bags and fresh barista coffee. Some fresh...

The location of this hotel was really perfect for us - it is right on the waterfront and it was lovely to wake up every morning to a view of the lagoon. This also meant it was literally a few steps away from the vaporetto stops, which made it so easy to get the boat to the other islands (like...

Goof location to transport on and off the island. you will need to pay the city tax in cash so be aware of that. Rooms are average at best, shower was terrible and lukewarm at very best. Ok for a basic budget room.

The only way to book a room at this hotel was through a site called AMOMA.COM for a cost of 212 CA$ making the total cost after taxes for three nights 655.02 CA$. I must say that in comparison to a 2 bedroom condo in the Cayman Islands at approx 500 CA$ before taxes per night the cost of Vecellio...

First of all this is not a Hotel. They put me in what is called an annex 6 blocks away from the "Hotel". Down several dark streets I walked to a door with a key to let me in. The hallway was dark, poorly lit, with a spiral staircase leading up to my room. No one was on the premisses....

The price we paid for this was exceptionally good for Venice. The accommodation is clean and well decorated and directly outside of the water bus which is great. It took my fiancée and I about fifteen minutes to walk to St Marks square from here, not a bad walk at all- you are in Venice after all! but easy to...

My fiance and I stayed at this hotel while in Venice for 3 nights in early October 2015. Our stay was excellent. It's a very small, quaint hotel. Under 10 rooms. The location of the hotel is perfect because directly outside the door are multiple water taxi stops. It is also far enough away from tourist spots so it's very...

We were put into room 1 in the annex to this hotel which is three streets away, not as far as it sounds. We had read reviews about the annex and were concerned about possible noise during the night. The room was ok, a reasonable place to sleep. We were there Monday to Friday and heard no noise at night...

It was a very confusing stay. We thought we were staying at the Hotel Vecellio but they sent us to the Annex. We had to walk another few blocks. The room was very small but had beautiful flowers painted on the door and armoire. I thought breakfast was included but there was hardly anything on the table. My husband got...

Perfect location on the Fondamente Nuove- north side of the island. Admittedly it is a long walk from train station , but the vaporetto boats stop right by the hotel from the Pizzale Roma (near train station). Vaporeto stop is right near Hotel Vecellio, so boats to outlying islands of Murano, Burano and Torcello are most convenient. Everything is within...

Staying in Cannaregio

Neighbourhood Profile
Cannaregio is the second largest sestiere (district) with its busy Santa Lucia train station. Many transplanted Venetians commute from the outlying areas, “terra firma” to the locals, which is shorthand for any place that is not Venice. Two Grand Canal bridges serve Cannaregio, the newest (Constitution, 2008) still a local hotbed of controversy. Ponte degli Scalzi is a busy link to the train station. Nearby shops on the Lista di Spagna offer specialties like pastries and coffee that lure Venetians with a down-to-earth attitude. The Ghetto, where the Jewish population was segregated in Cannaregio, has five historic synagogues with an active Jewish community. The Fondamente Nove bustles with foot traffic to the Rialto and San Marco while vaporettos (water taxis) head to Murano and other islands. Side streets lead into quiet picturesque neighbourhoods and palaces like Ca' d'Oro rise directly out of the water.
