Even though Venice wasn't our favourite place out of all the places we went to (best was Paris!), this hotel definitely beat all the others! The location is very convenient. You can walk to Roma Piazzale in 5 mins, it's very close to great local restaurants, and quiet at night. We got the junior suite and it was very clean...

This boutique hotel certainly tries hard to please it's guests and their focus is to ensure you have as wonderful a stay with them as possible. Nothing seems to be too much trouble, and it was a pleasure being treated as valued guests. Too many hotels these days seem to take their guests for granted, but Oltre Il Giardino wants...

My husband and I stayed here for 3 nights in May. It's located in the San Polo section of town - away from the hustle bustle and noise of the major tourist areas. However, you can easily walk or take a vaporetto to any of the areas you want to visit. The room was outstanding ("superior room") and had fresh...

What a fantastic place to stay! I booked on the basis of previous reviews, hoping it would live up to expectations, and it more than met them. Oltre Il Giardino is one of those places which should be a 'best kept secret'. Loved it.

Booking a room suitable for our family of 5 is not an easy task and Oltre Il Giardino was a great find! We were offered the 'Ecru Suite' which is located in the hotel annex, literally a couple of steps away from the main building. This suite is brand new (opened a month ago I was told), spacious (approx 80...

A superb boutique hotel right in the heart of Venice. Located along a quiet side-canal but still only 5mins walk to the Rialto. Beautifully decorated throughout and kept in pristine condition. The staff are friendly and helpful. Breakfast is a tasty spread and eating it in the garden is great way to start the day. Well worth paying that little...

We stayed at Oltre il Giardino for three nights as part of our honeymoon. We were very happy with the hotel, the service was excellent and always friendly, breakfast is included and it was fresh and more substantial than our other Italy hotels, including different hams and cheeses as well as fresh pastries etc. The location is completely perfect, far...

We had the most relaxing holiday and this really is the best hotel in Venice that we have stayed in - lovely staff, peace and quiet, made to feel so welcome. Loved the garden - even in November we could sit out. We have booked again for November and I really can't wait.

We stayed 3 nights in the junior suite. Wow, this place is gorgeous. The staff was extremely helpful (thank you Emanuele), the room was spotless everyday, breakfast was top of the line, and the garden area is perfect for relaxing after a day of sightseeing.

This is the third time I have stayed in Venice and this is by far the best place I have stayed in! We stayed in the ground floor suite with the outside terrace. It was a lovely room and there was nothing chintzy about it (something quite hard to achieve in Venice so it seems from past experience). The reason...

Staying in San Polo

Neighbourhood Profile
San Polo
The Rialto Bridge is the most famous sight along the Grand Canal in San Polo, smallest of Venice's six sestieri (districts) and by far the busiest neighbourhood. Morning Venetians arrive to peruse the markets for fish, fruit and vegetables, while shops display goods from cheese to wine to desserts. San Silvestro and Rialto Market vaporetto (water taxi) stops add to the steady stream of foot traffic. San Polo is defined by churches including Basilica dei Frari, one of the most important churches sought by art lovers.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The house, which once belonged to Alma Mahler, the composer's widow who lived there in the 1920's, lies next to a small canal just a stone’s throw from the Church of the Frari, has now been turned into an exclusive but homely retreat. This enchanting place in the hearth of Venice offers something unique to those visiting the city. Our guests will feel that they have really found a home away from home. ... more   less
