We stayed at the Rachele apartment, a step away from the Fondamenta Nuove vaporetto stop, 15 min walk from San Marco, and close to a supermarket and a few very good restaurants. The neighborhood is quieter than the touristy center, and offers a peek into everyday life in Venice. The apartment was spacious and clean, with a well-stocked kitchenette. As...

B&B is located only about 10 minutes walk from Rialto bridge where you can take Vaporetto #1 and it takes you all the way around the grand canal (7.50 EU "one way ticket" or pay 20 EU for 24hours and take vaporetto as often as needed). B&B is also located only about 7 minutes walk from Alilaguna Lines (vaporetto that...

Ca Riccio is an affordable, comfortable B&B in Venice. Our room was an attic garret which was a bit challenging, since both my wife and I are tall and there were numerous flights of stairs to access. However, we did enjoy our time there, and the staff was friendly and informative. We dealt most with Ilaria, who is the owner's...

From the first sight it looks ok, clean with some interior details, but once we tried to get to the shower door almost fall apart. Bathroom has no soap, no napkins. There are passwords to wifi written everywhere but doesn't work. There is price list on mini-bar with almost everything absent. Overall feeling is disappointment. Looks like it was great...

I reserved this hotel due to the location (Cannaregio neighborhood) and the great reviews on Trip Advisor. The hotel is very cute and well maintained. The rooms and beds were spotlessly clean. The beds were pretty comfortable, but we had twin beds with metal frames that squeaked. BUT BE WARNED: The hotel entrance itself is several flights of stairs up...

This location was very close to the water taxi but make sure you have directions or you may wind up dragging luggage up and down steps over canals. It was hard enough to carry the luggage up the five sets of steps to the top floor because there is no lift. Other than that, we definitely enjoyed this quaint B&B....

Good place - nice rooms, helpful staff, good breakfast. When we first took the water-taxi, it felt like it is far away from the station and other central locations. But once we arrived and were given the maps, we could walk to almost all the places - Piazzo San Marco, several water taxi stops. But best of all is the...

We stayed in Rachele 1 and it was very disappointing. Nothing worked! The kettle kept switching on and off, the fridge had been left slightly open and was defrosting, the cable tv wasn't tuned, there was no toaster, the shower door was broken and the air con did nothing. Maybe the inn itself is better, but this apartment was definitely...

My family of 4 stayed here (the two bedroom apartment) for 2 nights, and it was wonderful! The apartment was clean and roomy and had everything we needed. It has been recently remodeled. We LOVED being in the much quieter part of town for a chance to explore the authentic Venice. Cristina was very friendly at check in, providing us...

We originally booked at a sister location, but when I contacted to confirm, they had lost the reservation. Luckily, there was space available here. I think the other location was updated and nicer, but this was fine. The room and bathroom were clean. The bed was not very comfortable, but fine. We slept with the windows open, which turned out...

Staying in Cannaregio

Neighbourhood Profile
Cannaregio
Cannaregio is the second largest sestiere (district) with its busy Santa Lucia train station. Many transplanted Venetians commute from the outlying areas, “terra firma” to the locals, which is shorthand for any place that is not Venice. Two Grand Canal bridges serve Cannaregio, the newest (Constitution, 2008) still a local hotbed of controversy. Ponte degli Scalzi is a busy link to the train station. Nearby shops on the Lista di Spagna offer specialties like pastries and coffee that lure Venetians with a down-to-earth attitude. The Ghetto, where the Jewish population was segregated in Cannaregio, has five historic synagogues with an active Jewish community. The Fondamente Nove bustles with foot traffic to the Rialto and San Marco while vaporettos (water taxis) head to Murano and other islands. Side streets lead into quiet picturesque neighbourhoods and palaces like Ca' d'Oro rise directly out of the water.
