This hotel is the epitome of Venice - charming, quirky and wonderful. We were in room 26, which surprisingly came with a patio overlooking the Grand Canal - a great way to spend a late evening with a bottle of wine. Be prepared for Venice - don't pack a ton and I'd rethink even a wheeled suitcase. Room 28 -...

Stayed here for 3 nights with my now fiancé and really enjoyed our stay here. We were in a classic room 2. It was comfortable and clean with a great bed, bathroom and shower. Perfect for our short stay in Venice. The breakfast is a small continental buffet with a selection of ham, cheese, bread, pancakes, cakes and cereals. Great...

We just stayed in this hotel for a week. We had a family room under the roof. The service was good and the staff friendly and helpful. The continental breakfast in the dining room was plentiful. The room was a little warm even though it was October and we got bitten by mosquitos when we left the window open. However...

Very pleased with the hotel. Excellent location. Lovely room 9 with glimpse of Grand Canal from the window. Very attractive breakfast spread, recommend the chocolate cake. Friendly and helpful staff. Nice restaurants in the square near academia bridge. Around this hotel is more expensive than Dorsoduro (across the bridge) eg slice of pizza near the hotel €3:50 across the bridge...

I have just finished re-booking the Exquisite Hotel Dei Dragomanni where we are looking forward to spending another stay after our perfect experience there last year. We had booked a Double Deluxe Room and our Room was breathtaking. Huge windows that looked out onto the Grand Canal, top Luxury furnishings and design. The bathroom was huge and all in marble...The...

The hotel is a short walk from St Marks Sq so a great jumping off point for many of the key sites in Venice. Breakfast was included and was a lovely selection of breads, croissants, hams, cheeses, fruit, tea and coffee etc. Friendly and helpful staff. Nicely decorated, well kept rooms. Only downside was no tea and coffee facilities in...

We have just returned from a four night stay - the hotel is in an excellent location - only a 5 minute walk from the Santa Maria del Giglio ferry stop and some 10 minutes to San Marco - a great base for exploring Venice Room 4 on the first floor above the hotel entrance overlooks the narrow alleyway leading...

Hotel lobby is small but cute. I found the staff to be confused... she once told us breakfast was included in our stay....however that was not the case. The room was clean and small. It was quiet and quaint.

Just stayed there 3 nights and was very disappointed. While breakfast is nice, and location is good the rooms are small, not very comfort, and with very tiny place for hangers and/or drawers. In the shower of room 22 - in which I stayed - there is no place to put a soap or a shampoo, unless you put them...

I loved everything about this hotel from the location to the free breakfast to the staff and cleanliness of the room. It was a three minute walk from the water taxi stop and was tucked down a cute Street off of quiet Piazza that had the best gelato. Nice to be in a quiet corner of San Marco. For the...

Staying in San Marco

Neighbourhood Profile
San Marco
The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.
