Due to the contradictory comments on previous reports,we were a little aprehensive about our stay...four days at the start of October. The hotel is over-rated and should be one star less.It seems that the room you are allocated determines your overall view.We had room 37,which was on the second floor. It was of acceptable size with comfortable beds and nice crisp bed...

We choose this hotel from the reviews we read on TripAdvisor, however after 2 nights at this hotel we would not recommend it. We booked 2 rooms for 4 people (two couples) on Orbitz. The reservation indicated that check in was at 12:00 pm. However when we arrived at around 12:35 pm, the woman at the front desk informed me...

Highlights were cozy, clean rooms, extremely helpful staff, great breakfast, and the somewhat secluded location (everything in Venice seems to be within 30 minutes walking distance; but only 3 minutes to a vaporetto stop). Can't say enough about how helpful the staff was!

Picked it because it was close by vaporetto from train station (Santa Lucia/Piazzale Roma) to hotel, and walking distance to Windstar cruise terminal. They had free internet! Furnishings not great, bed uncomfortable, carpet nasty, air conditioning didn't work in August, no water pressure. Asked to be moved to room with functioning A/C but they would charge me more for bigger...

We have recently returned from a 3 day stay in Venice, during which we stayed at the Hotel San Sebastiano. This was not just your normal 3 day break, we actually got married in Venice and had the ceremony in the garden of the hotel. We had visited Venice in November 2010 to look for potential venues for our wedding...

The room is large. But it was hot all the time and had the smell of tar in it. They should not use that room until it is habitable. Rest of hotel was nice and quite. Location was close to #2 water taxi stop. Easy to take luggage from train station.

I particularly liked the location of this hotel - away from the crowds of San Marco and Rialto but close to the San Basilio vaporetto stop in Dorsoduro so everything you want to visit can be easily reached. Campo Santa Margherita is only a short walk with lots of outdoor cafes open until late. The rooms were clean, comfortable and...

Our family of 4 stayed in a large room overlooking the canal for 3-nights. The room had nice historic detail and a renovated bathroom. The rear garden was a great gathering spot for our group. We appreciated the location away from the crowds of St. Marks square, but close enough to walk to all the attactions.

We enjoyed our three night stay in the San Sebastiano Garden, a tanqui oasis at the E end of Dorsoduro, near to the Basilio vaporetto stop and to a district where ‘ordinary’ Venetians live. The Piazzale Roma is less than ten minutes on foot. The property is small, more a pensione than an hotel. There is a canal in front...

I am just finishing a 3-night stay at the San Sebastiano. While I like the location of the hotel, the attitude and service of the staff is VERY POOR! When I arrived I found urine stains on my bathroom floor and was placed in a handicapped equiped room on the first floor. When I spoke to management about this their...

Staying in Dorsoduro / Accademia

Neighbourhood Profile
Dorsoduro / Accademia
Artsy is the defining mood of this neighbourhood with street artists, students, painters, sculptors, restorers, curators, historians, collectors, heirs and heiresses rubbing elbows. Peggy Guggenheim's collection, now a museum, lures chic locals for evening art aperitifs. Traditionalists and visionaries cocoon in bohemian luxury. La Salute basilica buttresses the neighbourhood to the east. Gondolas bob in the morning light. The Accademia Bridge crosses the Grand Canal. A back street doubles as basketball court. Palaces house residents, or like Ca' Foscari a university, or a museum like Ca’ Rezzonico that attracts Venetians for concerts. Dorsoduro reveals its industrial roots too, in buildings converted to house university departments or exhibitions. Campo Santa Margherita bursts with youthful energy from local students. Foot traffic bustles to and from Piazzale Roma and Santa Lucia train station. Evening commuters pause for an aperitivo. Neighbours exchange confidants in a campo (square) on their way to market.
