My wife and I needed a room in Venice near the train station and was able to book on-line. It was easy to find after a short walk. Only hitch in the beginning was that the office closed at 1:30 pm and we arrived after. On the door there was a note saying to type in the secret code provided...

I read some pervious reviews before book but did not expect that there is a apartment not a hotel. No breakfast offers as on advertise on TripAdvisor! Big room with kitchen area and sofa. In the room was clean! But my room was very old I have to say. The pillow is very flat one each for person. Sheet is...

My girlfriend and myself took a little City break and this was awesome! Ca Fontanea is located in an "off Stream" area where the locals live, well deserved by a very nearby taxi boat station. For the ones that visited Venise during the high season will understand what I mean by off stream, millions of people...We booked the suite, super...

In the dark late at night it's hard to see the colour of Ca'Fontanea , but it is yellow! Not easy to find but when you do it is a gem. Nice rooms, big too. Walls are thin though and you can hear the other guests moving about. Breakfast starts at 9, and is fine.

Lovely place off the beaten track away from the tourist areas, which is great after a long day. Marianne greeted us on arrival and was friendly and super helpful providing us with a map of the local area, the best routes for the water buses and recommendation for local restaurants. The room was amazing with a terrace which made our...

Don't let the pictures of the place fool you -- I was a little hesitant to stay here because the pictures of the room looked rather plain. We were pleasantly surprised when we got there to find the main bedroom quite roomy, with lots of extra floor space than we expected. The bathroom and the shower stall was on the...

My girlfriend and I stayed 2 nights in mid march. As many others have said already great spot not to far away from the train station St.Lucia. Breakfast in the morning was abundant and the rooms clean and spacy. The only draw back was the noise I heard from the other rooms.

It was a great find for price/quality/location. About a 20 min walk from the train station, in a quiet neighborhood. And of course in walking distance to any major sites of Venice. The employees were very welcoming and accommodating, they gave us our room early when we arrived way before check-in time. Breakfast was modest but welcomed compared to the...

Staying in Cannaregio

Neighbourhood Profile
Cannaregio
Cannaregio is the second largest sestiere (district) with its busy Santa Lucia train station. Many transplanted Venetians commute from the outlying areas, “terra firma” to the locals, which is shorthand for any place that is not Venice. Two Grand Canal bridges serve Cannaregio, the newest (Constitution, 2008) still a local hotbed of controversy. Ponte degli Scalzi is a busy link to the train station. Nearby shops on the Lista di Spagna offer specialties like pastries and coffee that lure Venetians with a down-to-earth attitude. The Ghetto, where the Jewish population was segregated in Cannaregio, has five historic synagogues with an active Jewish community. The Fondamente Nove bustles with foot traffic to the Rialto and San Marco while vaporettos (water taxis) head to Murano and other islands. Side streets lead into quiet picturesque neighbourhoods and palaces like Ca' d'Oro rise directly out of the water.

“We went in late October and opening a window was enough for us on the air - otherwise, I cannot be sure about the A/C situation. Ours was up the stairs and to the right. Could hear neighbors one night but if everyone keeps it down a little - it is no big deal. (remember, people can hear you if you are yelling at your boyfriend...) : )”
