Getting there
Somewhat walkable
Places to stay are graded on a 0-100 scale. The higher the grade, the easier it is for travellers to find restaurants and things to do within walking distance.
The location, barely three kilometers from the city center with the main railway station, made it surprisingly unsuitable for use as a summer holiday hotel. You can't just go out and stroll around and experience the city. This is a distinctly consort hotel and the arrangement is accordingly. It is obviously low season in the middle of summer and few guests. There were no stands with notices in the reception area with boards or brochures about what you could do in Bari and experiences or trips you could join. Nothing written in the room either about the city and the surrounding area tips and tricks for getting around. What you can do is take a shuttle in the morning to the center and take a taxi back when you have done your errands there. The hotel does not have an outdoor pool. Spa in the basement with an indoor pool, you get an hour there by pre-booking at reception. Here there is no kettle in the room with instant coffee and tea bags, as you are used to from even a cheap hotel in Norway, nothing like that. You may have to get a pot of black coffee from the bar downstairs and put it on the bill. The room looked like something out of the late eighties, but everything was clean and the water pressure was good and the hot water came quickly from the tap. A few things in the room were defective but were fixed by repairmen the next day. We were offered a new room when it happened but chose to keep the room. Excellent breakfast with lots of options, the waiters were buzzing around you and didn't know the best they could do for you, so that was good. Same in the evening with the dinners, reasonably priced menu that makes it easy to choose this as a place to eat. There are also a number of good eateries in the immediate area. But mainly it is located in a residential area with lots of 15-storey apartment blocks. Parking in the basement is suitable for those arriving by car. If I had to choose again, I would take a hotel in the city, when someone like us arrived without a car.

Wonderful. We did the relaxation package which includes overnight stay, access to the spa for 60" , 3-course dinner and breakfast at a price of 190€ per couple!! Wonderful hotel, very kind and very professional staff. Rooms equipped with any comfort, bathrobe, various towels, radio slippers in the bathroom, double hairdryer, clean rooms, comfortable beds, double pillow .In spa we were given the towel (to return ) and flip-flops (which you can take home), large enough pool, Jacuzzi, Turkish bath, sauna and herbal tea area. For dinner, a fish menu, with starter, first and second courses. In the morning the breakfast was spectacular, there was anything from sweet to savory nothing was really missing. Ah...there is also an underground parking for guests. Wonderful experience we will definitely be back.

Hotel Nicolaus is a great hotel: large entrance hall with friendly and knowledgeable staff at reception, three panoramic elevators with windows overlooking the outside, large and fully equipped rooms, efficient air conditioning, comfortable mattresses, clean and well-made linen, bathroom with everything you need ... being in 4 (family room - two adults and two boys), the smallest bathrobe for my son (plus!) had been provided. We had dinner at their restaurant "The Seasons" and, frankly, a bit expensive but great service and good food. The design is from the 90s, partially revisited a few years ago, kept very well and always of great elegance. Only the colossal N on the facade of the hotel should be eliminated... more than iconic is pleonastic. The Nicolaus is a great hotel without a doubt. Consigliatissimo!

We stayed 4 nights in late August. Beautiful, large, monumental hotel that combines modern style with some retro notes. Note of merit to the external elevator from which you can admire a beautiful view especially going up to the 14th floor. Breakfast varied, hearty and tasty. The spa is available to guests for one hour a day and with time Reservation. We slept well, without particular hassle in the night... Would definitely stay there again. Just a few small notes I want to expose: - as soon as we entered the room at check-in, we realized that it had not been properly cleaned as there were crumbs on the ground and stains on the marble of the table, we called the reception and immediately went up to the room a lady to see and this annoyed asks us if we had other complaints and if we had enough to make them immediately.
- we booked the spa, we wanted to try the Jacuzzi, but unfortunately it was seized by a family for more than an hour even if it is expressly written on a nearby tag that can not be used for more than 10 minutes and in any case the manager did nothing to ensure that it could also be used by other guests

I stayed at this hotel, and unfortunately, it was a disastrous experience. As soon as I entered the room, I was faced with an unacceptable scene: a bathrobe covered in feces stains and sheets stained with blood. Truly an indecent situation for an establishment that claims to be of quality. After immediately reporting the problem, they apologized, saying they would move us to a "suite." Too bad the new room was only slightly larger than the previous one but even worse, as it lacked a balcony.
The spa was disappointing: the pool water was barely warm, and the environment lacked any appeal or relaxation. Even dinner at the restaurant didn’t improve the situation. The dishes featured unusual ingredients, but the taste was nothing memorable and certainly didn’t justify the high price.
The only positive aspect of my stay was the breakfast: abundant, varied, and well-served. However, this is not enough to make up for everything else. At check-out, there was no discount offered, neither for the room nor the dinner, despite the serious inconveniences suffered.
For €170 per night, I expected impeccable service and a comfortable stay. This hotel is nowhere near worth the price, and I strongly advise against it.

Dear Alfonso, I regret to read that almost everything went wrong during your stay. I apologize for the stained linen, we rely on an industrial laundry with high quality standards, but sometimes the machines in the ironing phase can have malfunctions and stain items. Unfortunately our staff did not notice it. I think this is what has negatively affected his whole stay. I hope there will be a chance to make her believe again in the future. Best Regards Daniele Petrucci Hotel Manager The Nicolaus Hotel Bari

Structure located in a residential and quiet area, where there are numerous places to eat and have fun. The impressive hotel, with a nice spa; we had the pleasure of dining in the restaurant occasionally located on the 14th floor with a breathtaking view of the city. I would have given a higher score if we hadn't made the unfortunate discovery that our standard double room wasn't equipped with an aerator in the bathroom, blind. This affected the air conditioning of the room and the comfort of the living room. Too bad!

I attended the wellness fair, and having to use the bathrooms for the treatments I carry out, I met Mariangela, the floor service employee who was the added value of the experience. Very kind, friendly, very attentive to her work and to the needs of her customers, truly top-notch. Thank you for your smiles and your kindness

We chose this after researching it on trip advisor and when we arrived it felt somewhat dated from a decor perspective, more 1970’s James Bond than bang up to date boutique…however the rooms were very clean the showers powerful and the air conditioning worked very well and you could even modulate it so you could sleep at night. Reception staff and room cleaning was also excellent however special mention must go to Vito and his colleagues at breakfast, he is an Italian legend, we had great fun and he was amazing. Courteous and exceptional with a great line in banter, we offered to take him home :) breakfast is a must, a great start to the day. Car parking is easy and access to the city is very simple with a car, we drove in every day/night and paid to park…only a few euros and very easy to use the machines when you get used to them. All in all a great place to stay and from where we visited most of Puglia, we even managed the drive down to Otranto and back in a day….

Business event, and related overnight stay. Beautiful structure both outside and in the common areas, I was touched, however, a small room and badly air-conditioned. It went better for my colleague who, according to me, got a much larger room for the same price. Reading other reviews, almost all positive, I guess I was unlucky. For goodness sake, the rooms are not all the same, but at the same price I would like a similar treatment, also because I booked directly on their website and I do not know that I have enjoyed special promotions. Positive notes the cleanliness and the various bottles of water made available. Not much savory breakfast (it must be said that for those who can afford the sweet one there are probably more options). Some of the staff not particularly courteous. I exclude people at the reception, all professional and very kind. The gem was, during the event, the continuous “raiding” of the gadgets put there for customers. I read so many positive reviews... good for them, but for me experience not to be repeated.

Very clean and luxurious hotel. Very friendly staff and rooms equipped with every comfort. Rich and abundant breakfast. The restaurant menu is very well looked after; the dinner based on fresh fish where the dishes stood out for their goodness and elegance in their presentation
