This is a wonderfully located and atmospheric small hotel. It is a great place for those looking to stay in a small less conventional space - a former palazzo - now furnished with modern art in many spaces. The rooms are unique, decorated to illustrate Sicilian myths, with comfortable beds and modern bathrooms. (The shower had one outlet that created a waterfall against the far wall - not usable, but the other shower head worked fine.) The staff could not have been more kind and helpful - they were terrific. And breakfast on the little terrace was both truly delicious (fresh pastries with the creamy irresistible ricotta, fresh fruit, yogurt, coffee, tea, fresh orange juice etc) and offered a lovely view of the city. The elevator was not working while we were there, but it was not difficult to manage the graceful marble staircase. We highly recommend!…

We picked this hotel because of the location and the good reviews. Exactly right! Situated in the Duomo area, the hotel is near the markets (vegetable and fish markets) and the area is safe and very busy. The staff is amazing, welcoming, energetic, attentive and fun to talk to and the restaurant staff really wants you to be happy with your (very) generous breakfast. A big thank you to Dany at the front desk who did everything to make us comfortable. The elevator was broken and had been broken for a while. Lots of steps here. Call ahead to ask about the elevator if you cannot walk the steps. I loved the art, too.

This hotel is a magical place with truly wonderful staff. It is located in a former Palazzo that has been converted into a hotel filled with amazing art. Some of the art is challenging (such as a huge pink flamingo sculpture), some of it is whimsical, but all of it enhances the experience. The location in the middle of the old town near the fish market and cathedral is perfect. But even more impressively, the staff went out of their way to make our stay comfortable. My partner pulled his back out just before arriving here, and was in a lot of pain. The staff went to a lot of effort to contact a doctor who came to the hotel that evening, and again the next morning to give my partner injections that allowed us to travel onward. Their kindness and extraordinary efforts were amazing. The only slight drawbacks to this hotel were: (1) its location makes it challenging to arrive at by car, and (2) during our stay, the elevator was not functioning, and there are a lot of stairs. Absolutely loved this place stayed for 1 night in March, the place is amazing its not like a hotel stay its an experience. If you like art or just nice things around you this place is an overload on the eye. Hotel unbelievable, staff so friendly and helpful, clean, beautiful rooms, great position. Don't be put off by the exterior once you walk through the door your greeted by the team (and Batman) that work there and then the experience begins, I honestly can't say a bad word about it. Breakfast was a whole new concept I don't want to put a spoiler on the surprise, not much hot food but you can get eggs done how you want, honestly I like my breakfast and was not a disappointed there is able and really yummy. Great place I used it as a stop off before going home so only one night but would have happily stayed longer such a great place. Honestly if you're staying in Catania don't bother looking elsewhere. Only a 5 min walk from the airport bus as well, so convenient. Cant say enough good things about this hotel.…

Staying at Asmundo di Gisira is a joy, a delight, a tonic, and unlike any we have experienced in our three weeks in Sicily. The all-female staff anticipates guests’ needs, provides warm, attentive and spirited service. The joyful and idiosyncratic hotel is ideally located next to the fish market in a 1750 home of a noble family. Rooms are spacious and decorated with imagination and flair, the terraces provide glorious views over the city, breakfasts are delightfully assembled and served. I love everythign about this hotel. I always stay here when coming to Catania. And my recent stay was as wonderful as the others. The design is probably the most impressive you’ve ever had in a hotel, the terrace for breakfast is like you’re in the best Italian cinema from the 60’s, the actual building is all marble and stone and elegence, and the whole package compliments your visit to italy perfectly. Style. The staff is exceptionally gracious, fun, professional and helpful. I read another review here, that had some negative comments. Mentioning things like not enough space around the wash basin, to put all the toiletries. And other small practical nusiances, like not enough hangers. While I myself wasn’t bothered by anything, I can see someone was from the review they wrote. I think the question to ask is: When you come to Catania, are you worried about space around wash basin, and coat hangers, or are you excited to be treated to luxurious style, contemporary art and roccoco vibes, and feel like your’re living the oplulant Italian royalty life? It takes a lot for me to give a hotel just 1 star, but the point of a review is an honest consideration of these 2 questions: Would I stay at this hotel again? Would I recommend this hotel to anyone I know? The answer to both is a definite "no!" The gimmick behind the Asmundo is that it gives its guests an opportunity to live within the walls of a contemporary art gallery in the funky/edgy/graffiti-infested market district of Catania. But the undisputed priority is the gallery - at the expense of the hotel. Our first room was on a spacious corner but we shared the space with a massive rubber foot that we kept tripping over. And while the stark, minimalist furnishings were handsome, there was nowhere to unpack ANYTHING. Every available surface was cluttered with creative tchotchkes. Even the bathroom had less than 1 inch of space around the basin forcing us to leave our toiletries on the floor surrounding the toilet and bidet. The rain shower is fitted to the very top of the 20 foot ceiling, spraying water all over the bathroom. There weren't adequate hooks to hang more than one towel and the "closet" space was cluttered with a non-working coffee machine and the materials to support it. We moved to a second room that was moderately better, with 4 small drawers that were hard to slide due to severe wood warp, and I guess we weren't terribly surprised to notice that the sub-standard bedding was sourced from IKEA. My advice: spend the day in a wonderful gallery, but spend the night in a comfortable hotel.…

Dear Mr Hyde, Thank you for taking your precious time to write this review, we can only remain enormously surprised and sorry by such a harsh judgment, because in the perspective of a continuous improvement of the provided services, we are always open and happy to receive feedback and advice from our guests, despite these are absolutely objective and constructive. From your words, unfortunately, we perceive that the concept of the structure has not been grasped: our priority is not the art gallery at the expense of the hotel, as you pointed out, but exactly the opposite; the revolutionary concept of Asmundo Di Gisira, Internationally recognized by industry experts, it is exactly to overturn the classic schemes of the hotel, creating an exhibition art gallery and integrating inside it the possibility of accommodation. All our Art Rooms are different in style, furnishings and sizes, which is why we leave to our guests, the absolute freedom to select the single room, in fact for all rooms, during the booking,is possible to view a photo gallery extremely accurate and that faithfully reproduces the spaces and equipments. In particular , the Art Room Uzeta , room booked by yourself, we imagine after a careful vision and selection, in addition to being one of the largest for square meters (44 square meters) and 2 large balconies , has got in the furniture, the huge rubber foot that you mentioned, not only being a chaise longue, which its function of use is not only decorative, is among other things, a very valuable and refined design piece of 1969 made by Gaetano Pesce. Among other things, you mentioned bare and minimalist furnishings and immediately after an excessive encumbrance of the spaces with decorative elements, which seems to us a rather contrasting concept. We understand the possible complaint about the non-exhaustive functionality of the space around the washbasin, but that it is equipped with a support surface large enough to overcome this possible shortage; as for us it turns out that in the bathroom there are N. 2 appropriate hooks and N. 2 towel rails integrated into the structure sink. Regarding the coffee machine, which is perfectly functional, it would have been enough to contact anyone of our staff, if you had encountered any problem in use and/or in the operation. Your discontent started immediately after the first night in the Uzeta room, complaining that it was a very dark room, when in reality it is the most exposed and bright room of the whole structure, despite this, immediately, we have taken care of your request to make your stay as comfortable as possible, in order to always meet the needs of our guests. Although we were fully booked on those dates, we proceeded to reassign other incoming guests, to give you the opportunity to stay into a room that satisfied you most: in this case the Art Room Sant’Agata. In this room , besides the "N.4 drawers difficult to slide", probably due to the fact that you refer to an original cupboard of 1700, there is obviously also a wardrobe with hanger and two spacious shelves. Regarding the bed linen , we can absolutely oppose your claim about poor linen, as we use for sheets supplies with Italian manufacture of cotton Percalle and sponges in cotton 500 g, all the equipments are also subjected to strict quality control. As well as for our handmade measure mattresses for each Art Room, and also on request, we provide to our guests , a varied Pillow Menu to ensure the greatest customization of the rest. Having said that, we assume that every single guest has different needs and expectations and personal taste is absolutely unquestionable, but it is more than evident, given your comment, that you made a mistake by choosing the wrong structure given your needs. Asmundo Di Gisira is a structure designed for art and beauty lovers who are looking for a unique place different from any other genre on the market. It is a place where you can stay in unique environments designed and created to make each of our guests live special experiences, in the awareness of having slightly sacrificed practicality and functionality in the classical sense to make room for valuable artistic and architectural choices. , always loved by our guests precisely because our guests think and see like us ... In the end, the point of an honest review is not the answer to 2 simple questions that are absolutely relative, but an overall judgment of the services and the structure that include a series of points you have not even mentioned ... Assigning a single star, based only on a partial and not total judgment of a service as your criticism is simply centered in one direction, is, in our opinion, not very serious especially given your so active participation on TripAdvisor .. .
