We travel in winter and in this our fourth tour in Italy, we move through Sicily, taking four weeks. We seek smaller, more personal accommodations and were we to conjure a perfect hotel, it would bear significant resemblance to Centrum in Catania. Located in the center of this small city, around the corner from the 1890 Teatro Massimo Bellini and a short walk to the sea as well as Piazza del Duomo, Centrum has only 17 rooms. The owner is present, multi-lingual and infectiously delightful and her staff reflects her hospitable and gracious self. The fourth floor two level suite is especially comfortable, complete with a private terrace and views over the city and to Mt Etna. All rooms have superb sound-muffling windows. The lobby’s sitting room and bar is handsome and inviting, and breakfasts are attractively served and generous. Staff simply cannot do too much to please guests: One of us was getting over a cold, and a staff member gleefully produced a breakfast tray I delivered to the sniffling one. Centrum is staffed 24 hours, which is a very agreeable plus.…
the rooms were rather small and run down. the handicapped shower had mold and looked to be very old. toilet was in the shower and also looked old and just creepy. the woman at the desk was very nice. we only stayed one nite and found a more comfortable hotel.
Approx 10 min walk to bus station, train station, Duomo, main shopping street. Several good restaurants within a couple of minutes walk. 20 mins to airport. Friendly and helpful owner and staff. Good breakfast, excellent coffee. It is on a very busy road so take ear plugs. Very comfortable bed. I wouldn’t stay in Catania again personally, it is frenetic, lots of graffiti and rubbish but it is a good base for that side of the island. We got a bus to Taormina, just over an hour, incredible scenery. Book/buy a ticket beforehand. Train to Siracuse, then Ortigia is about 20 min walk. Not a frequent service on either given was out of season, but all on time and very reasonably priced. Never had a bad meal or coffee anywhere, and everything value for money. Highly recommend Sicily!…
Lovely place situated close to everything Catania has to offer , warm welcome by staff and very knowledgeable and happy to guide you in the right direction , bedroom was a decent size and all amenities worked perfectly and the bed was just right amazing also how pillows can help ( not lumpy and thin ) buffet breakfast was adequate as well , train station is a 5 -10 minute walk and airport depending on traffic is max 15 minutes away, bars restaurants of all types and cafes were all nearby , would definitely go back
The hotel is centrally located. We walked to everything. The room was good but not overly large. Bed was firm but comfortable. The bathroom was a good size with a large shower. We had a room at the front so we could hear noise from the street. There was a mini fridge. The wifi worked well. No english channels on TV. AirCon worked well. Breakfast was good and included hot items (bacon and eggs). The woman on reception who checked us in was really helpful and very friendly explaining all the places to visit in the city. We walked up to the hotel from the AliBus stop. We also walked to the Interbus terminal from the hotel when we checked out. We would stay here again.
This was our first port of call on our two week vacation in Sicily. Perfect start to our holiday, location steps away from good bars and restaurants, close to the tourist attractions and about a ten minute walk from the train station. Lovely welcome from reception when we arrived who even carried our bags up for us. Room was compact, clean, comfortable, great bathroom and cleaned immaculately daily. Breakfast was great, hot, cold and plenty of cake and deserts, the one thing I miss about this hotel is the great smell of baking when walking down the stairs for breakfast. Super friendly, clean, comfortable hotel, great location and yummy breakfast.
Absolutely lovely staff. On reception, at breakfast, the room cleaners. Always smiling and happy to help . Very good breakfast. Different breads, good cakes, hot food, yoghurt, fresh fruits, cooked meats etc, and good juice. Big bed, good linens, big powerful shower. Good air conditioning. Situated about half way between station and Duomo Square. Area looks a bit run down, but thats like the rest of Catania. Its safe and theres restaurants around. Thank you for a great, but very hot, week's stay
This hotel is in a very central position, has everything you need and most importantly : the staff is fantastic and super helpful. Delicious breakfast, well equipped rooms and super clean hotel. I felt at home during all my stay, the staff overcame my expectations and I will definitely come back on my next trip to Catania. Grazie mille Centrum Hotel 🙏🏻
Fantastic food, smiling staff with well maintained & well equipped rooms, Centrum truly took Sicilian hospitality seriously. Throughout my stay, I was always welcomed by super gracious, warm and helpful staff who never forgot to ask about my well-being and my day. They even gave out a map, some candy and some great pointers. The room was well equipped with cosmetics, electric ports, lights and with an air-conditioner that felt like a gift from god! The breakfast was one of the finest I have ever had in an European hotel with an entire section dedicated to Italian pies and deserts. The location was great too, just 10mins from the main piazza & cathedral and 5 mins from Corsa Sicilia which has 3 huge supermarkets. The only small, minor gripe was the lack of hot water in the washbasin, besides which everything was absolutely perfect. Extra points for the heritage elevator ...…
As many others have commented, the staff at this hotel are just lovely. Check-in was quick, easy and friendly and they were very helpful in recommending and booking excursions, none of which were overpriced. They also helped with restaurant recommendations and the Sikula fish restaurant round the corner from the hotel is excellent. The day we checked in, it was my birthday and without any mention of this they surprised us later in the day with a bottle of prosecco on ice. Such a lovely surprise! We had a first floor room at the front of the building overlooking the street. The room was fine, bed was very comfortable, bathroom and shower all good though a little tired in decor. Breakfast is very good with a wide selection of choice. Being July it was very hot in the city and the room's air conditioning was extremely efficient and appreciated! Thanks to all the staff for a great stay.…
