Overall, we chose this hotel because of its proximity to the Old Town and its swimming pool, to keep cool in the hot month of August. Overall, we thought the staff were very kind and we slept well in the beds, but in my opinion the hotel needs significant updating to be considered a 4 star hotel. I had stayed in another NH hotel recently (Utrecht) and it was echelons above the NH Palermo in quality, so I was a bit disappointed by the NH Palermo. The swimming pool was very crowded (which we expected in August), but unfortunately this led to the bathroom in the pool/bar area being really unpleasant. Completely wet, unclean, no toilet roll.. just not enough toilets to accommodate all of the guests in the pool area. The room itself was clean, but the shower and sink area in the bathroom had some cracks in it, which is common for water bugs to come through, so we kept all of our belongings zipped up in our cases. NH Palermo is listed as a 4 star hotel, so we expected a bit better quality. But, if you are only looking for a comfortable, air conditioned place to sleep while visiting Palermo, the location was perfect and it would fit your basic needs.

Average hotel, we had to constantly ask for items such as a kettle or slippers. The tea was not restocked in the rooms so we had to get teabags from the breakfast. Breakfast was the same everyday so by the end of our trip we didn't even bother going for it - no hot food is served. Room cleanliness is not very good - we had a massive cockroach join is 1 of the nights and water is not served daily as per other hotels. Positive was the location is a bit peaceful from the busy old town which is 20 min walk away.

When we arrived we were immediately hustled by people outside the hotel with regards to payment for parking. It is a free car park. The room we were given smelt of damp and the electricity randomly turned itself on and off in the night. When we complained the staff at reception were helpful and apologetic. Even though it’s our first time at the NH PALERMO, it felt like stepping into an old familiar, comfortable pair of slippers. Italy Hotels aren’t sleek, shiny & new BUT they also aren’t all run by helpful, friendly staff & great cleaning staff. We had 10 days here to rest up after travelling around Italy before returning home to Australia, & we’re so glad we did & did it here. If you’ve read any of my reviews, I call it how it is & I’m not changing that now. To the people who complain about Hallways not being beautiful & cleaners trolleys in hallways - don’t stay at any hotel anywhere - especially Europe. Things are older. It is what it is. We certainly had a few “teething” problems at the beginning of our stay, but thanks to the efficient front desk staff, the divine manager (teddy bear 😉) & his personal dynamo Marta - we were heard & made very happy by their quick & caring handling of everything. NH Palermo, from their well appointed rooms to their yummy, lovely buffet breakfast & big (for Italy) swimming pool is a seriously delightful institution. Lots of cafes, bakeries & restaurants all within a few minutes walk & a stunning harbour view to enjoy from your balcony. If you want steel & mirrors go to Dubai, but if you want Sicilian charm & hospitality, then this Hotel will definitely please you .

We just left the NH Palermo this morning. To be honest, I can completely understand why this hotel has mediocre and very mixed reviews. The front desk staff were very unwelcoming from the moment we arrived until the moment we left. We travel to Italy every summer and this is the first time we have experienced this kind of unfriendly treatment. The overall feeling throughout the trip was as if we had gotten our hotel stay for free which was absolutely not the case as we spent over $2k for 4 nights as a family of four. Our rooms were small, dark and depressing. Also, I understand there is a bigger problem with homeless in Palermo however upon arriving to the hotel around the corner, there are several homeless sleeping under a tressel. During our stay the hotel was hosting a business conference with many people crowding the lobby and hotel amenities such as the bar. It was very clear by the way we were ignored to purchase drinks that the business people had priority. Big disappointment here, honestly I am happy to be gone and feel like our vacation can now begin that we have left the NH Palermo.

We enjoyed our 4 night stay at the NH and would definitely stay here again. We booked an extra large standard double but requested a change of room as we were getting a bit of noise from the afternoon pool music. The staff were very helpful and immediately moved us to a triple room (which I believe is the same price). I would advise you to book the triple room as it is larger and you can put all your bags etc on the extra bed. Room was nice and as it was the triple was quite spacious for a city hotel. The hotel is well located and on easy 10 minute walk to the town and restaurants. The pool area was an unexpected bonus and we ended up there most afternoons after sight seeing in Palermo. Nice big pool with plenty of sun beds. Breakfast was OK with lots of different options to suit most people. I generally go for the hot breakfast when on holiday but found it to be a bit substandard here, but there was plenty of fruit and bakery items so it was fine. In summary, a good value hotel with nice rooms and helpful staff. Would stay here again.

Location was incredibly convenient for daily walking tours, access to the waterfront park, cafes, museums, or even the botanical park and gardens. Room balcony was nice to take a step out without leaving the room and soaking in the amazing weather. Breakfast buffet was set up nicely and there were several options for dining al fresco. Staff was incredibly friendly - especially Martina, who greeted us with a smile at breakfast and was clearly accommodating and hospitable to all of the guests (she is a true gem and one of the many reasons we will be returning next year!). We thoroughly enjoyed staying at the NH Palermo Hotel. The reception staff were very helpful and accommodating, especially the young man, AGOSTINO including others too. All the staff in the restaurant are friendly and polite. Giovanna served us tonight at dinner. She is very professional and friendly. We especially enjoyed our extra large room with separate room just for luggage. The grounds with bar and swimming pool is a lovely place to relax. We enjoyed sitting by the pool, having a drink and loved the music which the DJ had chosen. A great break for the two of us.

Leo at the pool bar was absolutely fantastic! My daughter has food allergies so we had to be very careful with everything she was eating and most times she wasn’t able to have any type of treat when we were out and about. Leo was aware of her allergies and always made her feel special by making her a drink that was safe for her. 😍
