Palermo is a city of contrasts from great architecture down to no very nice dwellings but my experience has been that wherever you are in that city the people make it a pleasant experience you just have to give it a bit of time!

In fact, if you are renting a car to see more of Sicily it is much easier to come in by bus, not worry about driving late at night in Palermo (which can be alarming if new to you) and return the next morning to collect the car from the airport. Why pay for a day's rental and parking when you go straight to bed?
