Magnificent luxurious hotel situated in beautiful Ortigia. From the moment weentered the decorated lobby to being shown to our two story marble floored room, we felt like royalty. What a beautiful property this is. Excellent service by the staff with every detail attended to. Oh and the buffet breakfast is fit for a long. Was the best way to end our Sicilian holiday!
When a hotel is this outstanding.... and I mean, in every conceivable way.... what more is there to say? This hotel is arguably one of the best hotels in all of Italy, and I've stayed in most of them. I could even expand the European circle of first hand comparison and say, one of the best hotels in Italy, France, Spain, Great Britain, and Austria. To be traveler ranked number 18 of 86 hotels in Siracusa would be a bad joke were it not understood that the room rate is really the driving force in this hotel's ranking, and if you're reading this review you likely already know the rate and how much it costs to stay here, and overall, can afford it. And unlike so many of the 'stupid money' hotels out there, in consideration of what you get for your money, this hotel is quite a bargain. I'll begin the body of my review with my sole criticism of the Ortea Palace: they have no meaningful sign on the outside of the building. If you didn't at least know what the hotel looked like, when your navigation system tells you that you have arrived at your destination, you would have no clue as to which building is the hotel. We were told by the concierge that the hotel's owner feels it's more chic not to have a sign, and although I'd disagree, it's his/her decision to make, not mine. Your welcome is first rate. The front desk staff is as friendly, professional, and competent as you could hope for. The lobby of this recently renovated hotel is worthy of a palace. While your bags are taken to your room, you're directed to the lobby bar for the welcoming drink of your choice. The room we stayed in was nothing short of spectacular. Previous reviewer Pedro S.933 included four photos and his room was very similar to ours. How many non-suite hotel rooms have you ever stayed in that have an upstairs and a downstairs connected by a beautiful marble staircase with a bathroom on each floor? Every single fixture, furnishing, and appointment was above and beyond first class. The two orange upholstered arm chairs weren't to my taste, but my Italian Mother would have loved them. We never dined in their signature, top floor, restaurant, so I can't speak to the cuisine there, but I'd wager that it's as exceptional as the rest of the hotel. The lobby breakfast only required a small nod to the contemporary Covid nonsense in that instead of being able to serve yourself from the buffet, you point to what you want and a staff member fills your plate. The buffet itself was as exceptional in its variety as any, pre-Covid. Room service was shockingly efficient. We placed our dinner order and it arrived within ten minutes, a record not likely to be broken in my lifetime. When we were done we called to have the cart removed and again, the room service staff member arrived in ten minutes to roll the cart away. You might be thinking here that room service was so fast because the hotel was empty, but in a week so far of traveling in southern Italy, the Ortea Palace seemed busier than any other hotel we've stayed in; perhaps even close to normal, pre-Covid, expectations. By the way, the Pasta Norma was truly outstanding, likely as good as any in Italy. The background staff was all five star, to a man or woman worthy of such a wonderful hotel. When we first got to the hotel and pulled under the entrance canopy we parked behind a newly arrived, late model, Rolls Royce. Maybe the owner of the Rolls Royce wasn't as impressed with the Ortea Palace as I was, nor as sad to be moving on to his next destination when he left, but I could have stayed here for another week without batting an eye. Great, great, hotel.…
Located within the Ortigia Island, in the center of the most ancient part of Siracuse, within a walking distance of the major interesting points of the city. But even better is the outstanding quality of the hotel. It is a true 5*, contrasting with many hotels in Sicily that don't deserve that classification. The decoration is beautiful and the rooms are perfect in space and comfort (we stayed at a 2-floor room, with the hall separated of the bedroom), with an huge indoor pool and sauna with perfect maintenance. The breakfast has also good quality and variety. Hotel highly recommended.
This is a great luxury hotel, perfectly placed in the beginning of ortigia. The service was stunning at reception but also afterwards as we lost a ring and when we called 3 days later they had found it and send it to us! Unique as was the friendlyness of the staff and a great Barman too. We also enjoyed the very spacious room with view on the harbour and see.
The pros : historical building very nicely renovated. Nice buffet selection for breakfast. Delicious cakes served as amenity in the room upon check in. Very helpful staff at Reception (Sylvia) and at Concierge desk (Concetta) going the extra mile to provide excellent recommendations. The cons : avoid duplex rooms as bed isolated upstairs can make you feel claustrophobic and isn’t practical with wardrobe and toilet being downstairs.
