In between the enchanting narrow roads that constitute the old city center of Syracuse, where in ancient times the main square was situated as a point of conjunction between the isle of Ortigia and the rest of the city, and where once the holy fire of the Polis was kept, the Caportigia Boutique Hotel arises. One of its kind it’s the first boutique hotel in the city, capable of offering its guests personalized accommodation and services, with unique furniture arranged according a theme and a particular style

We spent four nights at the Caportigia, and would highly recommend it as a base for exploring Siracusa and eastern Sicily. We had a rented car, so the location was perfect - just a couple minutes walk into Ortigia (the historic core) but yet just outside the restricted zone for cars and with free available street parking. We splurged for the "junior suite" which gave us plenty of space and a nicely appointed and provisioned bathroom. The service stands out from the helpful people at the front desk to the very friendly breakfast waiter. We had written ahead that my husband is celiac (gluten allergy) and they not only provided for him at breakfast, but it was really good bread and they even made him a gluten-free cannolo one morning which was such a nice surprise. Highly recommend.

A 5-star luxury boutique hotel on the edge of Siracusa near old town Ortygia. We stayed in room 301 (top floor) for two nights in late September. LOVED this hotel. We splurged a bit for the room with a large private patio and hot tub and enjoyed sitting out in the late afternoon. The room was clean and white and spacious with a totally up to date (although a bit compact) bathroom. The hotel staff was very helpful in helping us park our car and in getting us settled. The bellman and all around utility player, Bangalee, made such at effort to making us feel welcome from setting up our hot tub and bringing us wine, snacks and towels. He's an absolute gem! As were all of the friendly and well trained staff. Our waiter , Andrea (named after St Andrew), at breakfast made an effort to let us know he had seated another big table in case we wanted to get our order in ahead of them in case we had a scheduled activity. Breakfast consists of a vast menu of hot items as well as a buffet (although you can't help yourself at the buffet due to covid restrictions which was fine). If you like chocolate you must try the thick hot chocolate. If I had to find a nit, it would be the AC. Like all our Sicilian hotels, it couldn't really crank out enough cool air for the space. We slept fine on the firm bed nonetheless. Certainly not an inexpensive place to stay, but if we learned anything during Covid is that travel is a gift and treating yourself a bit is a joy. Highly recommended

We visited in the first week of November and we were left totally unimpressed. The hotel is run by no more than 3 employees who take on the role of everything: receptionist, bell boy, waiter - you name it. And if that was not odd enough, the employees are very hostile. In the morning we were served breakfast that was included in the Bed & Breakfast price. Although the breakfast choice was good, they make it hard for you to order “limitless” like the say. If for example after the scrambled eggs, you want to try the pastries, they glare at you meaning to ask “was that not enough for you?” We specifically ordered a cannolo (big) and they, purposefully, got us the cannolino (small; size of your little finger). Same goes for ordering a second cup of coffee, they reluctantly accept the order. We dined in the restaurant daily in the evening due to the current restrictions. The food was very tasty, but the portions are extremely small. The fish fillet was the size of my thumb! It’s better to stick with the pasta option as that one is a reasonable size. But it’s good to point out that in the evening, since you will be paying, they offer you more of everything - “more wine, sir?”“more water?” Care for dessert?”. What hypocrites! It goes without saying that we will not be visiting again, and neither should you unless you want to have the same unfavourable experience.

Dear Josianne Z, we find it really difficult to reply to your review, to the point that we seriously wonder if you are referring to another hotel. Just reading all the other reviews to realize that "something is not right". Starting with our staff, which stands out for its courtesy, availability and for the continuous attention given to our guests. Do you really think it is possible to manage a 5-stars hotel with only 3 employees? We are sorry but we do not understand the reason for your words! Breakfast is among the services most appreciated by our guests, not only for the quality and variety of the offer, but also for the service offered by all the staff; our pastry chef Daniele is always ready to satisfy any kind of desire, even those not present in the menu. The allusions addressed to the behavior of our breakfast staff are unfounded and do not correspond to the truth, we know very well their professionalism and the passion they put into their work. We always look at negative reviews from a positive perspective, taking inspiration to improve services. We always thank those who criticize us for pushing us to improve. Unfortunately this is not the case. We know that we cannot please everyone, however the facts described never happened and it makes us all really surprised. All the best. Caportigia Boutique Hotel
